Nzoner's Game Room>Illegal Hits
Hamwallet 03:41 PM 12-01-2024
How about this…

“If you do an illegal hit during a NFL game you are suspended until the player you hurt is ready to play again. You also are responsible for that players salary during that time.”

I think that would stop a bunch of crap.

“Fuck me, I owe Patrick Mahomes 45 million dollars?!”

Sounds good, but good luck getting the union on board

That would never fly. They do that and it might as well be two hand touch as defenders would be even more leery of tackling a player.

Trevor Lawrence got smoked today. That’s the only reason I am putting this out there. It was terrible and a 15K fine and ejected is not even close to what should happen.

I am tired of off setting penalties. Evan Engram was flagged for defending Lawrence. So the hit resulted in an ejection but they replayed the fucking down.

2 hand touch and blacking out a QB sliding is a very different conversation jackass.

Each fan base gets to pick its “Punishment Fan”.

The guilty player gets locked in a room with the opposing team’s Punishment Fan for 3 hours.

Hit Mahomes? 3 hours with TheGuardian. No rules. No pants.

The result of the hit should be of no consequence. The intent and egregiousness of the hit should be what you focus on.

I think they go hand in hand with multiplier's. If you intended to knock them out of the game and injure them done for the season. If you intended to knock them out of the game and ended their career your career is also over. Also cover lost salary and a clause for lost monetary advertising revenue.

You cannot have people ruining careers when a team commits half a billion dollars and some asshole decides to do something reckless.

Want to hear an amazing fact about how the game has changed? There was not a single face mask penalty called in the NFL for its first 30 years of existence.

Its not even remotely realistic nor a good idea.

When Chris Jones lands on a QB, gets flagged for Unnecessary Roughness and crushes his ribs, you would think that idea was dumb.

Pretty sure Chris Jones could accidentally kill a small animal with just the weight of his dong

I am with you on this. I still don’t get people who insist on seeing hard hits and the end of the “pussification” of the league. You know what’s way way way worse than this pussification? Watching brutally bad replacement players because all the superstars keep getting hurt isn’t better football.

The unions need to get together and realize this is a win win to protect player safety. Cut out this shit with short weeks, more bye weeks, players union agrees to regular training camps so players can condition better, crystal clear rules on player safety (defenseless receivers…. Sorry guys… is my biggest concern). I do like the idea of the punishment fitting the crime because offensive players are way more vulnerable to game changing injuries than defense.

The NFL came into existence in 1920. Grabbing the face mask was not a penalty through the 1961 season.

It was actually 42 years. :-)
