So we know they like to come back to guys that were taken other spots that they may have liked in the draft.

With Wharton playing his way out contractually, we're gonna need some interior DL help next year as well as likely some DE help.

So who would you look around at that has underperformed that could be reclaimed?

Like say....would the Giants be interested in moving Thibodeaux? Surely not. Or are the Jags gonna blow it up, no way they'd wanna move Walker?

Do we need to trade to execute that?

The Chiefs depth chart for next year at DL, currently under contract:

DE: Karlaftis, Danna, FAU, Cam Thomas
DT: Jones

RFA: Herring
UFA: Omenihu, Wharton, Pennel, Nnadi, Tuipulotu

I do think that Wharton has played himself out, but I'd strongly consider giving Omenihu another 2 year deal. FAU seems to be coming along. You can bring Pennel and Nnadi back easily.

I'm struggling to pencil in Omenihu wanting to stay around, especially if he has a big year.

I'd also not count much on Cam Thomas yet.

Having an ass kicker next to Jones like Wharton is huge.

I agree on Wharton, but really what his emergence has done is forced Spags to sideline reducing DEs like Danna down into DT. Danna generates some heat from the interior, so if we lose Wharton but strengthen the outside rush by bringing Omenihu back, I think you've maintained the Chiefs good rush.

Not seeing alot... maybe Phidarian Mathis, Zacch Pickens, Alex Wright, Brodrick Martin...

2023 was a good DT draft... as good as there has been in a while... and Veach severely miscalculated. I'd probably guess he's going to address it in FA again.

The Chiefs arguably have the best DT corps in the league right now.

They are close to the hardest group to run on in the NFL, and two Chiefs DTs have the best passrush quality in the entire NFL among DTs.

It was an enormous chance that happens to be paying off. They get by with alot of chances because of Chris Jones.

We're a hard defense to run on but the only quality cog against the run at DT is Pennell and, hopefully, he doesn't wear down.

Wharton playing beyond his normal gives solid balance. Jones is still Jones and Nnadi still is ass.

All except Jones are on one-year contracts, of which the only one you're likely trying to bring back next year is Wharton.

One of those rookies from 2023 would be paying dividends now and for the next few seasons. I think the two things can be relatively exclusive. Just because the route Veach took is working (pray nothing happens to Jones), doesn't mean he probably shouldn't have built the depth there the past couple of seasons to be a little more future-looking.

Omenihu has been super vocal on Twitter the last year about "getting what he deserves" so I think he'll end up going to the highest bidder no matter where it is.

Veach did make a clear effort to retain the DL this offseason, curious if that continues into the next offseason.

I think Marlon Tuipolotu and Fabian Lovette are guys that can be looked at next year too

That's exactly what Omenihu should be doing.

The thing is, he was suspended in 2023, and will miss half of this season in 2024.

Teams may not be interested in forking a ton for that. But if we are so inclined, we could offer 2 years for $20m and that may be the best deal he can get.

Is direckshun a homosexual? I think he is. It explains his effeminate mannerisms. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Outside the book of Leviticus and the book of Romans, very little backlash to that.

Agree with all of this. We've got away with it a bit, which I guess is vindication of sorts for the approach. Letting Coburn walk was a mistake imo.

I absolutely wouldn't bring Omenihu back, not close to worth it, especially with the injuries. But, I would like to see some investment in the position.

Man, I liked Travis Jones, think he was my preference over the Cook pick if I remember.
