Aerosmith's Peace Out farewell tour is no more.

The band announced in a social media post Friday that its members made the "difficult, but necessary" decision to retire from touring due to 76-year-old frontman Steven Tyler's vocal cord injury, which postponed the tour in fall 2023.

"As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side," the band's statement read. "Sadly, it is clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible."

The statement continued: "A final thank you to you - the best fans on planet Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true."

USA TODAY has reached out to a representative for the band.

At the The Peace Out tour launch in September 2023 in Philadelphia, USA TODAY music critic Melissa Ruggieri said the Hall of Fame rockers were in top form, saying "Tyler’s holy howl remains remarkably flexible, which he verified on the gravelly choruses of “Cryin’” and the prescient “Livin’ on the Edge,” and the band’s musicianship is in peak form for this victory lap."

After only a few shows, Aerosmith pressed pause on the tour and shifted dates to 2024 after Tyler fractured his larynx during a New York gig. They'd planned on a rescheduled 40-date run starting Sept. 20 in Pittsburgh, with the tour concluding Feb. 26, 2025, in Buffalo, New York.

Fans who purchased concert tickets through Ticketmaster should have their purchases fully refunded. Those who purchased on third-party sites should reach out to those merchants.

Their time was over a long time ago. Fantastic catalog. One of my faves ba k when I was a teenager.

Once saw the open for Bob Dylan. Not kidding. It was in San Francisco big park where they have all the concerts.

Man, end of an era. Icons deserve to go out on their own terms.

Sad I never got to see them live.

They were in KC way back when I was 15 or 16 and wish I would have seen them live back then.... they were in Phoenix at the end of last year (and they play in Vegas a lot), but the cheapest tickets were like $600/each and dude's like 75.

I flip flop back and forth between these older music groups are just THAT egotistical to think they're worth that kind of money, or the music industry has gone completely down the toilet in recent years and people are just willing to fork the money over to see good music and performances anymore.

Maybe a bit of both?

Nostalgia is a powerful drug.

And I guess if you scream the lyrics loud enough, who cares what they sound like. :-)

But yeah, I wonder how much say Aerosmith has in that pricing or if it's taken care of for them and they're just happy to rake in the money because people are willing to pay.

Hell, I caught Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox 20 (two separate concerts) last year and neither were more than like $60... but, some of these like Aerosmith or paying $1k for Fleetwood Mac is just insane. Some of those bands from 40+ years ago aren't even the same people anymore, you're more or less watching a cover of the original.

The Toys in the Attic album was a huge part of my teenage years.

Great stuff.

Aerosmith had been stealing people's money for years with subpar performances. Tyler's voice must be really bad if they called it quits.

I saw them in 1975 Memorial Hall KCK the Toys in the Attic tour. They were pretty damn uninspired going through the motions. They couldn't reproduce the sounds from the album on stage. That was rare in that era. Never saw them in concert or bought another album of theirs. I had friends who went to other concerts of theirs and thought they were one of the better live bands on par with the Stones. Everyone has a bad night I suppose. I never gave them a second chance.

I saw Aerosmith back in 2015, Steven Tyler was 70, and still absolutely killed it. Blew me away how well he both sang and moved, and one of my favorite concert memories. Sad day when he has to hang it up, he's an absolute icon.
