Nzoner's Game Room>The Fishing Thread
Easy 6 07:58 PM 02-19-2010
Searched around & only found the video fishing & BassMasters threads, i know their are plenty of outdoorsman here, so i figured it'd be cool to draw upon the Planets vast experience in all things fishing.

I only use spincast reels & fish mostly large/smallmouth bass & cats. My choice of reels is quite the source of derision from many people i know 'duffer gear', but i haul in my share of 6 pound bass & 10-20 pound cats on that gear no problem. With a little know-how you can use just about any technique you want to on 'duffer gear'.

Berkley Powerbaits are a big part of my trick bag, the difference between those & regular stuff is night & day. My best action last summer came on Mister Twister scented white curly tail grubs, on one day fishing from shore to a bridge pier, i caught smallies, bigmouths, perch & even 1 carp believe it or not... great day. But my bread & butter is a texas rigged Berkley worm, it'll wiggle through any kind of cover without getting hung up.

With cats i strictly bottom fish, no bobber & bait is just as basic... but its always in 2's to give'em a real treat... a shrimp/with a nightcrawler, liver/chunk of cheese etc. Cats are mostly for night sport to me, time to kick back a lil...

So thats me style, how do the rest of you guys get your fish on? What do you fish for, what do you use? IIRC Missouri's trout season just kicked off, anyone getting anything?

I never ever ever leave the pre spooled line on anything.
Nice way to start the day man. I'm headed out early tomor. morning to float Flat Creek and try and slay some smallies.

Meh, 20 pound line is 20 pound line to me.

For every ten revolutions of that reel the fish took ten foot of line, it was absolutely ridiculous.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

This finally did it for me on spincast reels, they have NO power at all... I have friday July 3rd off next week and am going to Scheels for a $60 plus open face reel with some actual horsepower.

There isn't a Bass Pro around here Tat, but I can no doubt get that or something very close at Scheels... oooh I'm still pissed, this "catfish" rig is the biggest piece of crap I've ever had.

Didn't deliver worth a damn, and it was the same price as what you're showing, about $45... they just took Zebco's biggest POS reel and upsized it three times.

A big piece of crap is still just a piece of crap.

I hate Zebco's and I hate Shakespeares they are just cheep good for kids but not good for serious fishing.

I think if you order from Bass Pro Shop $75 you get free delivery so get something with a Cat Buster I don't think you will be disappointed. I haven't got to fish a lot with it but the cats I was pulling in with it were a lot bigger when I saw them than what they felt like.

I caught about a 20-25lb Silver Carp earlier today. I was trying to jig for flatheads, but no avail.

So I decided to start snagging carp.

Flat Creek was up a little bit, water was moving to fast in a lot of places to fish.
Still had a pretty good day. Caught several keepers (12 inch or more) and this fighting 17 inch smallie. Not huge by some standards but for Flat Creek they don't get much bigger. I was finally able to yell out those three special words every man loves to hear.....'Get The Net'.

Just made an offer on a house that was accepted here in the PNW on a river. I cannot wait to steelhead fish in my backyard. Been a dream of mine to be able to do that. I probably still wont catch a thing but It will be really close to the beer fridge.

Thats a sweet smallie, very nice.

And I flat out love the look of that creek, beautiful stuff, I'd rather fish a creek like that than any lake or river, period... because anything you find in a river, you'll find in a creek that feeds it and they're much easier to fish to boot.

:-) many congratulations, as far as I'm concerned a home on a nice lake or river or any nice piece of water is living the dream... dont worry, you'll catch plenty of fish from that river.

My dream is to live full time on a houseboat on some giant lake in the south, some truly incredible ones out there for as little as 50k.

Oh dude nice! Steelhead fishing is nuts. Pay for a guide once or twice, learn the spots/secrets and then go on your own. You can surely catch them during spawning. Pictures of those monster fish when you do!!!

Thanks all, very excited to be moving to this property. There is a hatchery a few hundred yards down the river. If I dont catch anything in the river Ill just launch a fly over into their holding tanks. :-)

Here is where it is located, if you know the area it is part of the washougal.
