The @NFLPA just released their player team report cards for 2024 and the results are ... suboptimal for the Chiefs.
Head coach Andy Reid gets A+ but Chiefs rank dead last in training staff and ownership. Ownership gets an F- from the players. pic.twitter.com/2XyHkQfFru

He should have kept his mouth shut because a complete renovation of the practice locker rooms and training facilities is going to require much more time than is available in one offseason. There is extensive planning that would go into this like where do you hold mini-camp practices during the offseason and what is your contingency plan if the renovations fall behind and aren't completed by the end of training camp. Completing a construction project of that size in 6 months is a big task.
The team would be much better off building a brand new state of the art practice facility away from the Truman Sports Complex. Make it a show piece to help attract free agents and a place the players want to spend more time in. [Reply]

You think Jawaan Taylor or Sammy Watkins or Tyrann Matheiu made any fuss about the ****ing practice facility when they agreed to come here in FA?
I'd bet my mortgage that not a single thought from any of those guys was about concerns about the practice facility. Nothing has changed in this league. Players care about two things:
A. How much are you paying me?
B. Who is the coach
And most of the time players don't give a shit who the coach is if you pay them enough.
Money talks guys. Brandt Tillis just went to work for David ****ing Tepper. Why? Bc he's paying him a **** ton more money [Reply]

1. Reid will not coach here forever.
2. If 2 teams are offering close to the same amount of money and have similar coaches, players will take into account the facilities. [Reply]

Chiefs have the best coach and best QB in the game right now. That alone will get players to come to KC. [Reply]

Players should care much more about the income tax levels in the states they play the majority of their games in rather than the facilities as long as things like antibiotic resistant staph infections aren't breaking out in the locker rooms [Reply]

But then they get an F on this report? It doesn't pass the sniff test unless all those players are just outright lying.
There are some glimpses of what could lead to this discrepancy from comments OBJ Jr and Hardman made this season.
OBJ Jr. talked about how the training staff treats every game “like a playoff game” and said they were “old school” in their approach in working with players to get them “game ready.” Interestingly, this was meant to be a negative, as he said the Bengals were hands off and believed in letting the players rest until they were ready.
Mecole talked about this in a similar way, but said he appreciated the Chiefs approach after being with the Jets. He talked about how the Jets training staff was way more “relaxed” with the players and as such, practices were often disorganized and players were missing in action during drills.
Sounds like Andy and Rick run an old school ship. I could see how it could lead to really divisive reactions from players used to a different approach on a new team or from college - but looking at how our players health has held up with 6 straight playoff runs, it’s hard to argue with the results.
