Nzoner's Game Room>There's some drama in Cincy
Mecca 02:49 PM 08-28-2024

As someone I trust told me about things in Cincinnati this summer “ the vibe isn’t good “ https://t.co/DnBatgEZHg

The Bengals are having a very strange summer https://t.co/ivRQx0AnxE

Looks like they're off to a rousing start to the year.

Chase is a much better long-term play than Higgins. Higgins is likely to cost about 90% as much as Chase costs with Chase being a substantially better player.

A real franchise would've traded Higgins and inserted Burton while using the freed money to get Chase's deal finalized. The Bengals, OTOH, look like they may prefer to just hose the whole damn thing up.
They've always been cheap and done things weirdly.

They were college teammates, I'm sure this is a good-natured middle finger among friends.

you think it's a cash liquidity problem with Brown?

They don't have the balls to trade him.
Just once I'd like to see a team do just that. The players having ALL the leverage all the time needs to stop.

Think he'd struggle to get a loan?

No, no I do not.

That'll never change, teams that don't pay players will end up being awful because no one drafts perfectly and then free agents will not be interested.

Basically, you're right. Idk...it just seems like things are getting out of hand. Everybody wanting to be the top paid guy just so they can say they're the top paid guy. It's an ego thing. At the cost of crippling your team's salary cap. We've all had this same conversation for years. Maybe if I was in that situation, I'd do the same thing. Who knows

But if you're in that discussion, why shouldn't you insist on that?

I mean if you're Chase, you have a good argument as the best WR in football. Hill, Jefferson, Chase, Lamb....maybe St. Brown? Maybe AJ Brown?

But really, I think you have 4 guys that are 'the list' when it comes to the best WR in football right now. And if you're up for a new deal and play a position not known for its longevity, shouldn't you absolutely be looking to re-set the market?

Creed did. Butker did. Jones did (sorta; a nod to Donald's retirement payment there). In all likelihood, McDuffie makes an attempt to do so. I mean it just is what it is.

Yes but insist on it later in your rookie contract. Chase has 2 years left. He's just being stupid. I hope the Bengals dig in and tell him to get fucked.

Hope you’re right, Bengals hold the line and dare Chase to blink, hurts their team chances to win games, and the result is a horrible season.

Look at this pathetic fucking mom and pop franchise.

Two star receivers in the NFL who were drafted between 2019 and 2021 have not received a contract extension yet: Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase. pic.twitter.com/r5JeBvjmKZ

What’s even more epic about this situation is that they knew this was coming from almost the time they drafted Chase. Good thing they selected him (and will eventually spend a market setting amount for him) vs drafting a LT to protect their superstar QB.

Because of these choices they

1. Will have to pay Chase a fortune or lose him.
2. Won’t be able to keep Higgins
3. Have Brown Jr at LT
4. Have a QB who can’t stay healthy and is well on his way to being the next Andrew Luck

They should have figured out the Chase deal before the other big name receivers this year, especially the two guys in Chase’s draft class (D-Smith & Waddle).
