Nzoner's Game Room>Sleep Apnea...
penguinz 02:10 PM 12-11-2023
Doing an at home sleep apnea test later this week.

I am sure there are others here that have done this.

How annoying is the test and how long did it take you to get used to a CPAP if one was prescribed?

I also like to travel and dispersed camp. Any suggestions for battery packs or other accessories once?

All depends on what your insurance covers... Mine sucks stanky ass until I hit the deductible. It was either 1000 or 1300 for the machine and accessories. You have to then replace certain pieces at certain times.

Heard it was stupid expensive.

Do you buy it at an approved place or anywhere they sell them?

Through the clinic I did my study through. Was about same cost as anywhere I saw online.

I would go through a medical device company or CVS.

HSA money qualifies for these.

I save up my HSA to pay for mask/tube/filter replacements.

I would highly, highly recommend getting a So-Clean machine as well. You will NOT want to wash your mask, hose and reservoir on a daily basis because it is a pain in the arse. But those items I just mentions MUST be disinfected "everyday" or you will have continual sinus infections from hell like never before. Just saying.:-)

Most people with untreated sleep apnea ARE stomach sleepers naturally. Because it helps when you’re younger.

Even if you’re in good health. I had the issue when I was at my skinniest in colllege and when I was at my peak physical condition before I got married (when I was a pretty chiseled 6’2-205). Took my wife working o. Me fore a few years to finally do a sleep study.

I just had to replace my Resmed S-10, because it says the motor is about shot, (black) of +5 years with a Resmed s-11 (grey/white) today. My insurance would cover it if I "rented" it for 10 months at $130/month. So $1300 lighter, I would "own" it. They wanted me to get another prescription from my DR to do another sleep study at a hospital. If I failed, then the insurance company would allow me to rent it!! HOOPS to jump through. Even though I have been using one for +5 years???

The difference between the s10 and s11 is nominal. Do you want it smart? Not me, don't care. etc.

If found one the s11 for $600 and used my HSA. Not online. I now, have looked on line and found a Resmed S10 for ~$300-500. I will return the S11 and keep the nasal pillows. I am not sure I can use my HSA online though. Maybe I can submit receipts??

I bought 2 (one in reserve) Resmed Air fit P30i nasal pillows halo type with the nose inserts, which I haven't used before. Before, I used the nasal pillows that just sit under the nose. It does move a bit and annoying. I think the inserts will work much better.

Thus, use your HSA, if you can, and buy online a ResMed S-10, P30i, and a Soclean machine to keep you stuff clean. Total = $500+80+300. ~$900 vs $1300 through insurance.

The only thing that is consumable is the $80 mask every 6 months and some filters in the Soclean.

In the end, you will sleep much better and have more energy. After the initial set up costs, maintenance is not that bad for the benefit you receive:-)

Holladay--the resmed 11 is smart...

Does that mean it connects with bluetooth instead of the cell phone 3g. Since 3g is now gone..

I had a resmed 10 die. they replaced it no charge.

I dont clean my like I should and have not had any issues. I change the filters more often than anything.

I bought the $250 models for years worked great. No issues. Making more money do decided to try the $900-$1000 models. Love it now. It gets the ramp up to speed more slowly so it’s not as abrupt as the cheaper models. Way easier to tolerate and get to sleep.

So -Cleans are junk. I wash my hose, filters, mask and water tank every Saturday and am fine.. I do use the mask wipes every nite before bed… Been doing it this way for years. The washing every day thing is way overblown..
