About the only cigars I have ever tied into, other than a few Cuban Cohiba's before a few years ago, were nasty stock. I started flying to Belize every year on vacation and while I was there, I started trying several different varieties and was pleasantly surprised. At this point I have two humidors and several different selections. I still don't smoke that many, but I break one out on Friday nights, or when the boys are over for a beer. The little white dots that are produce by the sugars can easily be wiped off and have no impact other than to know your sugar has a perfect age and humidity.
If you have ever been unfortunate to see mold, I haven't in my humidors but my cousin did once, they kill the cigar and usually you see other signs like greenish color and slightly swelled cigars from over moisture.
More and more authority figures are saying plume doesn’t exist at all

I own one of those quad metal tools that looks like a skinny flashlight with a small punch on one end, large punch on the other, a double prong nubber inside and a long draw tool with barbed edges on the other.
So I jinxed myself. Bought a tubo Montecristo White and sure enough when I removed the cedar sleeve it had the white powder/ dust. I usually stay away from tubos bc I've heard they are more prone to it. I'm still leaning towards the mold side of the debate, but I did wipe it off and smoke it and it was fine (it was on the wrapper only, not the foot). I just think that if plume was scientifically proven cigar companies would be pushing that narrative like crazy in their advertisements. 'Look how well our cigars plume out with age' type of thing, but I haven't seen that. Either way I tend to think it is harmless if it isn't in the filler.

I think they are afraid too many casual smokers will mistake mold for plume.
Also I find it occurs a little dryer cigar where the moisture on the wrapper dries.
Ambassador Cigars in Paradise Valley is a high end cigar shop and lounge with multiple cigars displaying bloom at different times. They have over $1.5 million in inventory in the giant walk in humidor and they wouldn't let them stay if it was mold. [Reply]
