This is a cap related move. 33mil for a QB is bad enough, but if they don't cut/trade him after this year, then he has the leverage in negotiating a new contract at the market rate (north of 33 mil). So while Derek is a decent NFL QB, they don't think he's 33+ mil good.
Probably more needs in LV than can be filled in the draft in this coming year so its looks like a roster reset. [Reply]

Oh, ok. Some of the posters here do as well.

Hell, Stidham wasn't even the best backup QB the Raiders had in preseason. He just got the job because he was McD's guy.
49ers will roll. I'd be surprised if we score the rest of the year.
Um, lets not pretend Payton Manning or Joe Montana is being benched here. Carr is averaging 15-17 PPG isnt he? Carr wouldn't have done squat against the niners. He is ranked 31 at QBR and leads in INTs. I think some here cant get 2016 Carr out of their heads. Since the middle of last year, Carr has been mostly uninspiring and been carried by Jacobs when they do well. Even a mediocre QB this year could have won a handful of games and making the playoffs. Every loss minus one have been 1 score games where the offense has failed to score in entire halves. Carrs mechanics all year have gone to shit. His throws beyond 15 yards resemble punts or wounded ducks. Keeping him and paying him $30-$40 million next year would have been insanity.
Best for the Raiders to part ways, try to build a great defense while continuing to have a great running game and groom some QB while going with a bridge type QB for a year or 2. [Reply]

Tebow has one more playoff win than Carr.
But yes, Tebow was a bad pick. Can you recall all the other picks that McBugel had? Several of which were on the 13 win teams and SB team maybe?
Fear not though, you can likely keep your screen name if the NFL turns into a flag football league as Carr is a great QB when wearing the red t-shirt :-) [Reply]

Well, you'll be happy anyway. Enjoy watching Stidham as the Raiders QB for the next couple years. [Reply]
Draft a new QB and let Stidham or (?) be a bridge QB. Some of the cap savings will help add to the defense. The Raiders do have weapons on offense that any QB would love to have.
It’s amazing how Josh McDaniels fucked them over. Derek Carr got this team in the playoffs without his HC for half the season last year. It’s not surprising that McDaniels comes in and does exactly what he did in Denver: set that franchise on fire [Reply]

I'll hold my breath waiting for this to happen. We haven't had a good defense in 20 years, let alone one resembling "great". [Reply]
