"She put her body on top of Lilly’s to try and protect her after the attack started," Bennard's uncle by marriage, Jeff Gibson told USA TODAY on Saturday. "Both (dogs) started attacking her while she lay on Lilly."The two children were pronounced dead when officials arrived at the home, the sheriff's office reported.
It was not immediately known what provoked the mauling. The mauling, Gibson said, lasted about 10 minutes. The dogs – two pit bulls that belonged to the family – were euthanized at Memphis Animal Services Thursday.
The family owned the pets, Cheech and Mia, for more than eight years without a violent incident, Kelsey Canfield, the mother's best friend, told Fox News.
"I can promise you those children were her world, and if there was any inkling of danger, she would have never had those dogs near her kids," Canfield told the outlet. "Those children were everything to them, and they just have a really long journey ahead."
How do you feel about PittBull's? I posted this because my wife shared this story with me and my son was just recently participating in a "read to sheltered dogs" event where you could adopt a dog (I know brilliant).
I've heard the arguments that PittBull's get a bad wrap, but it seems time and time again they are the focal point of dogs who do these horrible acts. [Reply]
Other people on Twitter helpfully said that you should grab the dog by hind legs and pull it off, stomp on legs to break them or stick your finger or stick up its asshole. I feel like I learned something today. [Reply]
I am not sure those videos are 100% proof of that. The first one, the guy was already done at that point when he got the finger up the bum. The second one was definitely what you said. The third maybe since we didn't actually see it. The fourth was a berry twister and not a bum shot. [Reply]
A pitbull jumped my son, latched onto his thigh and wouldn't let go until my son jammed his thumb as deep as he could into it's eye. Only then did it let go and run away. [Reply]

Really ought to be an 'Exterminate on Sight' order for those fucking things.
Every pitbull head you turn in to city hall gets you $100 [Reply]

Well done, son.
Kept his cool and delivered the proper response. [Reply]
I had a friend who had a neighbor in an apartment complex who had a pitbull. It was such a nice dog until something would snap in its head and it would become violent almost instantly and its owner would have to become equally violent to get it to back down. I got the impression that the dumbass thought he was proving something by having a dog like that and while I never heard of anything bad happening there's just zero reason to ever have a dog like that - especially when the owner isn't willing to do what is necessary to control it (and it you have to "do something" to control your pet from attacking others that should really be everything you need to know that you've got the wrong pet). Friday I was over at a former Amazon colleague's house to help me with some wood work to repair one of my stairs. When I knocked on his front door, his pitbull went crazy and then he opened the door a little to acknowledge me and his dog tried like hell to get at me. Scared me. The dog bit my foot once already a year or so ago. I hate that fucking dog. [Reply]

'She had no warning': Deaf grandmother fatally mauled by neighbor's 3 dogs
A 62-year-old woman has died and a 73-year-old man is recovering Tuesday after being mauled by three neighborhood dogs outside a Missouri home, according to police.
Gladys Anthony, who is deaf, died in surgery at a Saint Louis hospital after the attack in her Walnut Park West neighborhood, the St. Louis Metro Police Department reported
The area is about 8 miles northwest of downtown St. Louis.
“Because my aunt was deaf, she never heard the dogs approach,” Anthony’s niece VRene Green wrote a fundraiser page she created to help the family with funeral expenses. "She had no warning, no chance to protect herself.”
A man who intervened with a pistol and broom in an effort to fight the dogs also suffered injuries in the Friday night attack, police said. He was expected to survive.
Responding officers were able to distract the dogs and deployed pepper spray, police said, causing the animals to run off.
