Since July 1, a married, veteran teacher and a 14-year-old boy have carried on an inappropriate relationship, authorities in west-central Georgia said.
They had sex in the teacher’s kindergarten classroom over summer break and in her car near the playground area of the school, Upson County Sheriff Dan Kilgore said. And they had more trysts at the teacher’s two homes as well as an industrial park off Delray Road, Kilgore said.
Now Jennifer Lynn Robinson, 47, is being held without bond in the county jail on five counts of child molestation and five counts of aggravated child molestation. While each count of child molestation carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence, each count of aggravated child molestation carries anywhere from 25 years to life in prison, Kilgore said.
“We are shocked and saddened by this,” Upson schools superintendent Maggie V. Shook told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Wednesday.
She and Kilgore said the alleged relationship came to light Monday when Robinson called out sick from her job as a kindergarten teacher at Upson-Lee South Elementary School, about 70 miles south of Atlanta. She left her Facebook page open on her classroom computer. Notifications from the Facebook page kept going off in the classroom and a paraprofessional went to disable them.
“When [the paraprofessional] clicks on the computer,” Kilgore told The AJC, “there’s inappropriate content … from an underage person.”
The instructor immediately notified the school principal and deputy superintendent, who then contacted local authorities, Shook and Kilgore said. Kilgore said Robinson confessed to an inappropriate relationship, which continued as recently as Sunday, and was arrested.
“We immediately terminated Robinson and have another teacher in the classroom,” Shook, the school superintendent, said. She had been a teacher for 17 years.
The boy, an eighth-grader at Upson-Lee Middle School, was never one of Robinson’s students, officials said.
“She met him through [one of her] family members,” Kilgore said.
Robinson had a first appearance hearing Wednesday morning. Her next court date has not been set, Kilgore said.He said the sheriff’s office does not believe there are other victims.
