Searched around & only found the video fishing & BassMasters threads, i know their are plenty of outdoorsman here, so i figured it'd be cool to draw upon the Planets vast experience in all things fishing.
I only use spincast reels & fish mostly large/smallmouth bass & cats. My choice of reels is quite the source of derision from many people i know 'duffer gear', but i haul in my share of 6 pound bass & 10-20 pound cats on that gear no problem. With a little know-how you can use just about any technique you want to on 'duffer gear'.
Berkley Powerbaits are a big part of my trick bag, the difference between those & regular stuff is night & day. My best action last summer came on Mister Twister scented white curly tail grubs, on one day fishing from shore to a bridge pier, i caught smallies, bigmouths, perch & even 1 carp believe it or not... great day. But my bread & butter is a texas rigged Berkley worm, it'll wiggle through any kind of cover without getting hung up.
With cats i strictly bottom fish, no bobber & bait is just as basic... but its always in 2's to give'em a real treat... a shrimp/with a nightcrawler, liver/chunk of cheese etc. Cats are mostly for night sport to me, time to kick back a lil...
So thats me style, how do the rest of you guys get your fish on? What do you fish for, what do you use? IIRC Missouri's trout season just kicked off, anyone getting anything? [Reply]

Or maybe I just hate myself for not going back to Canada for another Fishing trip. Went up to Lac Seul in Quebec several years ago. Several days of Northerns, Walleyes, and Smallies was fricken great.
I love to fish, it has always been my favorite thing to do. Funny thing is I don't like to eat fish. Every now and then I'll try a bite or two but it has never been anything I like to eat at all. On that trip I stayed at a decent lodge and had a guide every day. And every day he would cook shore lunch for me and my friend. The first day he made fried potatoes/onions and walleye. Just rolled in corn meal and fried. So I tried the walley. It was killer, I mean it was 'Damn, what the hell have I been misssing out on?' That day I ate so many walleye fillets that my stomach was hurting and I had to just lay down in the boat for an hour or so before I could stand up, move around and fish without my stomach feeling like I had a watermelon in it. Every day I was there I had walleye for lunch. I was thinking I would never again give my fishing buddy all my fish because I didn't like it. Unfortunately, fish has never tasted like that to me again. Doesn't mater what kind, or how it's cooked. I just don't like the taste. I think maybe the water had a lot to do with it. Crystal clear, clean, unpolluted water and enviroment is about the only thing I can think of that's different.
I'll never forget that week long romance with her. That smile of hers, those big beautiful eyes, the playing hard to catch and the way she tasted in my mouth. She satisfied me like no other......before or since. I still run across her from time to time. Shes changed though. Distant and cold, tries to get away from me when she figures out I'm there. And worse of all, every encounter since Lac Seul just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Excuse me while a go cry a little bit in private.
I've always wanted to fish those northern-type waters for muskie and pike, legit freshwater "monsters"... I've also always wondered, do people eat those two fish?
And walleye, I've ate a lot of what the jokers that run restaurants and taverns around here CALL walleye... but its not, its always cod or something similar.

Pike but not musky. Pike might be my favorite fish. [Reply]
Love me some maters,
we use banana pepper juice or some other hot pickled juice and peppers and spices, butter, a little beer, looks like my fishing buddy went heavy on the butter though.
You just cant beat fresh Walleye, add a rib eye soaked in dales marinate..... cook med rare and tater and onions and a can of beans, fresh maters and avocado.......mmmmmm [Reply]
Spicy vinegar diluted down with some beer and butter... :-) yeah I bet that makes a damn fine sauce, especially when you throw in some wood smoke flavor from the fire. [Reply]
I have been naturally cringing at the far side shore of the lake and all it's shady goodness
Just out of reach.
The bunkers are within a meter or so.
So I can't fish the best part of the lake unless I want to pay green fees.
That's what I thought. Until a wily old vet cruised past me today, hooked a turn under the cart bridge and played the **** through.

So, has anyone posted evidence of landing a 10+lb large mouth?
That's the what drives me out there time after time.
A fish with enough torque to pop the strongest lines.
I've lost that fish 3 times out here this year.
Many hook em. Fewer than you might think ever get one on dry land.
Having the drag strong enough to set the hook, and forgiving enough to not pop the line, is just the first hurdle. I jerk the shit out of it twice.
If the hook is not locked when he comes out for the freedom shake he's loose.
But, if it is, and the drag is locked when he dives, he swims away with some sweet facial jewelry.
I had one jump on me a few weeks back that could have swallowed a toddler.
It's actually torturous that they are in there and that I don't have one.
It's kinda like a Chiefs SB, too.
I mean, it should happen before I die, but that doesn't mean it will. [Reply]
