Rating and ranking metrics or not, it just doesn’t have “blow out” written all over it. I suspect a good game.
Still trying to talk yourself out of being blown out I see. [Reply]

You’re correct. I don’t put much stock in Pre-season and it’s hard enough to watch Browns’ pre-season games.
I’m sure they were great, as that’s been stated several times already by numerous people. I got attacked for referencing PFF grades before, despite the disclaimer that they certainly aren’t the be-all-end-all, but nonetheless KC is rated out as the #7 OLine in the league, so hardly anything to sneeze at, so to have a good pre-season showing against 3 middle of the road D-Lines (which is what the Browns are…. probably just an above average D-Line I’d say, about as good as the 49’ers I’d say) Niners, Cards, and Vikes, is great for them. A lot to be desired being pre-season, but they did what was expected……. Not sure where it became a “Chiefs O-Line is all elite and Browns can’t touch Mahomes” but that’s the vibe I’m getting, and I just think it’s a better matchup than that [Reply]

My inbox isn’t exploding…. make the BetUs account and make it fun. It’s nice that you’re so certain. If you’re willing to give me the original 6.5 I will make the same bet twice. [Reply]

They also have Jedrick Wills as performing pretty rank average last year, which I'd agree with from what I saw (though happy to be told otherwise), and that feels like a somewhat important position on that OL. But I agree, take it with a pinch of salt and I don't doubt he's improved from his rookie year.
I actually think you have some of the same questions that we do. How quickly does JOK improve the v average LB play you've had - same as Bolton and Gay for the Chiefs. Do Newsome and Williams elevate your CB play enough - same with Baker and Hughes for us.
I also don't think your D line is going to be that much worse off. If they're planning to move Clowney and Garratt around the line like we are with Jones that'll be a problem for teams. Clowney isn't a great pass rusher but he's still decent against the run. If you've lost something there it may not be as much as expected.
And then I think your safeties have to be a massive upgrade.
Basically, you're a good team, an obvious playoff team and good luck to you all, good to see the franchise turned around from, let's be honest, the complete dumpster fire it was. But the biggest issue is you don't have a Mahomes, that's the greatest disparity and the most important one. [Reply]

You don’t seem to understand. The line does not have to be elite for Mahomes to take very few sacks and make plays to win by double digits. It merely needs to not be full of backups playing out of position. That is the bar for the Chiefs to blow the Browns or any team out. And if they don’t blow a team out (first Bucs game) the game is well in hand the entire second half with some late points to make it closer. [Reply]

That same argument could be made about almost all of your defensive starters not named Garrett and Ward. [Reply]

Sure bet? There aren’t many of those in football.
Likely bet?
What is more likely?
(1) That Andy Reid and Andy Heck have decided to play 3 young OL together for the first time in their partnership even though they’re not quite ready
(2) That the returning guys who were roughly average or better starters last year (c Blythe - average; C - Allegretti - average/slightly below; RG Wylie - slightly below; Remmers - above average at RT) all got pushed to the side because the best guys to protect KC’s $500M QB are the 3 noobies?
(2) is more likely. Which would mean those youngsters at C/RG/RT are better than the Chiefs option there were last season.
It’s a sure bet Kc is better with Thuney. It’s likely KC is roughly the same at LT, with potential for at least slight improvement. [Reply]

This line is going to be miles ahead of the above line that went 14-2 despite all their problems....
The names on the left hand side were our original starters going into the season, the names on the left were the SB starters.....So entire left side of the line was second string, the center was the starter all season and can't sniff work this season, and the entire right side was literally the 3rd stringers.

I don't give a shit about PFF.....I know what I see with my own eyes, and (because I'm a football junkie), I've watched every snap our starting 5 has played so far multiple times, while isolating on specific individuals as well as the line as a whole.
So you can trust some football nerds, or go watch yourself and then comment. I know what I see, and (as now twice stated) they are at worst better than the SB starting line (and in my opinion), will be significantly better than the line that played most of the season that went 14-2 + 2 playoff wins), and the ceiling is being a top unit.
Browns are already down a TD 21 hours before the game kicks off. They're getting pasted tomorrow. It won't be pretty for them to see what Andy and Pat have been putting together. [Reply]

I will be back later Sunday to either congratulate you guys, or find out what impossible series of events occurred to have the Chiefs fall short.
Have a good weekend
Huge respect if you actually do this. Many claim they will do it, but very few actually do it. [Reply]

Take it or leave it, don't care.....
Remember, they love them some Reiter who to this day still remains unsigned by any team. [Reply]

Yes, Mahomes can make plays with a pretty meh OL, although he gets more beat up in the process.
And even if the OL has some growing pains in pass protection, there's a lot reason to think that this line be will much better at punishing defenses that drop back by running at them. [Reply]

I can understand a level of confidence too, but it surprises me how little stock most are putting into the inexperienced Chief O-Line. I know Mahomes is amazing and elusive, but I’m sure every HC with the Chiefs on their schedule has watched that Superbowl ad nauseum to find ways to slow him down.
I hope for a good, clean, injury free game. Enjoy your season, but “Same Old Browns” is kind of a cheap dismissal to an up and coming team whom many believe will win their division.
I perused the Tampa vs Dallas gameday thread……. took less than a page for someone to wish death to Tom Brady……. It’s just a game guys. Be well
