Pretty alarmist, IMO, but possible.

Spoiler!

At least natural gas and electricity are regulatory

They do, just not as quickly as they raise prices.

Family vacation this summer to glacier national park is going to be expensive. Time to mortgage the house to pay for the gas.

Oil's going down pretty hard today so far. 10+% Which seems like a ton but it's been jumping like crazy ever since the war started.

I thought you were saying that the pricing isn't proportionate between increases and decreases as it relates to crude prices. Not speed.

Do you think it's reasonable that they end up charging, say, 3.99 a gallon on what they paid 3.49 for? A 50 cent a gallon profit from the 10 they already were?

I don't.
Why is it bullshit?

No one likes overpaying. But you seem to be misunderstanding the market drivers. Gas stations largely pass along the cost of the gas with a little markup on top. That markup is a little variable, but for the most part it stays pretty consistent. It's not like gas station owners are suddenly reaping huge profits when the prices spike. Most of the extra money goes to the rest of the oil supply chain ecosystem.

Yes I apparently am, and the second part has not been explained. So be it.
