Nzoner's Game Room>***Official 2024/2025 KC Royals Offseason Thread***
GabyKeepsMeWarm 03:35 AM 10-11-2024
Royals went from 56-106 to 86-76.

Made the playoffs. Took out the Orioles on the road.

Lost in four games to the Yankees by 4 runs.

Finally got a bullpen.

Had two pitchers who will finish in the top five for the Cy Young.

Bobby Witt jr turned into a superstar likely being an MVP #2 to that phag in NY.

Salvy just kept doing Salvy stuff.

Vinnie came back from shoulder surgery and had a helluva year.

Cole Ragans had a full season. His arm didn’t fall off. He’s probably top five for Cy Young.

Seth Lugo is gonna finish top five for Cy Young. He’s like Rick Reed. And he’s ours for at least another season.

Brady Singer will get his next time with arbitration. And I’m ambivalent, but I know it’s damn hard to find healthy arms who could be be better as a 3/4 starter.

Michael Wacha was more than everything we could’ve ever wanted, but I say let that man fly unless he wants to take a dumb contract, which he won’t do.

That gives us Alec Marsh who was pretty great for his role.

And we have Wright coming in, plus Bubic who could start.

But this team needs another bat and wingman for Bobby. It’s perfect that Juan Soto would fill many roles, but it ain’t happening.

Adames is someone I like. And we can dangle Massey/Garcia. Just a thought.

This team…. I hope they go into the offseason working hard, and I hope they got the glitter out of their eyes.

Good team with obvious weakness, and a perennial superstar ready to erupt….

Sherman and JJ should be on the phone soon

FWAR is pretty useless when it comes to C because they have applied drastically too much weight to framing metrics.

At least to me.

Well, your vote doesnt count. Jorge Posada spent one year on the ballot because he didn't even get the minimum number of votes for a 2nd year. If Posada isn't getting HoF votes, Perez sure as shit isnt.

Duncan beat me to it.

'Framing' is the biggest crock of shit ever. Thankfully, it will go the way of the do-do here in a few years when the automated strike zone becomes a thing and be forgotten forever.

Posada dropped off in large part because of a backlog of quality candidates due to PED suspicions.

Jim Edmonds being a similar case as Posada. Timing is everything, too.

We've seen candidates get 10% on their first ballot and gain momentum by the time they are in year 10 of eligibility. Even if Sal gets up to 40% on the last writer's ballot like Fred McGriff, he'll get seen by the Era Committees that have more players on them and he's a highly respected guy among the player group. McGriff was revered by baseball people, that's why he is in.

I think Perez's HOF case will be long and drawn out but I wouldn't say never on him.

Well with another couple of decent seasons Perez will have surpassed most of Posada's career numbers aside from OBP which he'll never reach.

Posada's entire batting line is better, not just OBP. Posada was also equally as bad at framing, yet he sits at 40 fWAR. Perez is going to fall well short of that mark. Whether or not you want to agree with it, WAR is becoming a major stat when it comes to who is HoF worthy with voters.

Alright boys, now that the World $erie$ is over, free agency can start.

Trade candidates
Donovan?
Baty?
Helsley?
Fede?

Free agents?
I still think Soto is too good not to pitch a deal with a structure that overlaps with BWJ. Timely options might be appealing to Soto's agency.

Whatcha got?

How is framing even calculated? There are so many variables that come into play.

Not surprising I guess. Both Yankee fans and Royals fans buried Costas in that last series but I hope there wasn't some health issue. My worry was it was like he couldn't see the game or something. Seemed even more like that at Kauffman when he missed a bunch of things like calling Vinnie's ball into center a base hit. Yankee fans were hammering him for not getting excited enough during their big plays but I wondered if he couldn't see them well. Could just be age.

Costas is a Grade A Yankees queermo

Glad I won’t ever have to listen to him again

It also seemed like he ultimately overproduced his delivery towards the end

Like he was trying to sound like a legendary baseball voice instead of just being one

I mean does he...really..talk....like...this..in..real....life?

The highest exit velocity of Bobby Witt's entire major league career is 116.9 mph.

Jac Caglianone, you had my curiosity. Now you have my attention. https://t.co/NaafaXoOAv
