I guess I'll spoiler this for now
Spoiler!
Very surprised to see Hemmer get greased. I figured the main crew was safe. Guess not. And I wonder if the actress playing La'an is leaving the show? They certainly made it seem like she'll be gone for an extended period at the very least. And I guess the red shirts in this show don't necessarily wear red, but it was fairly obvious from the start that the two previously unseen "exceptional" crewmembers wouldn't live to see the credits roll. :-)
And while I liked the episode, damn, they really liberally ripped off Alien. And Cloverfield. And how the hell are these lightning-fast super predators the same species as the lumbering green giant that Kirk fought in the original series? A little continuity please, ladies. Fuck. And I also really don't get the massive fear they all had since they all are armed with weapons that can vaporize an opponent. Or perhaps in addition to all their other super skills Gorn are phaser proof? Ugh.
Oh well. Still much better than Discovery or Picard. But my high expectations for this show really aren't being met. CAN WE PLEASE GET AT LEAST ONE DECENT FUCKING SPACE BATTLE NEXT WEEK? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE :-)
Enjoyed the horror movie feel of that one. They can rip Alien off all they want, I don't care. It's an effective formula and it works.
That ending also felt like a season finale so much that I had to check to make sure it wasn't after it was over. Hemmer was a good character on this show this season, so it's both surprising and somewhat disappointing that they killed him off. Guess we'll be seeing Scotty turn up soon enough now, though, which may be worth it.

I'm holding out hope because we didn't see a death. [Reply]
Chris Doohan, the son of original the original Scotty James Doohan, played an excellent Scotty in the fan-made Star Trek Continues a few years ago. It would really be cool if they brought him onboard to reprise the role. Roddenberry's son is one of the producers, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that it could happen.
I don't think there's much need to spoiler things at this point since it seems there are only about six of us who give a shit. [Reply]
Chris Doohan as Scotty occurred to me too, but he's in his early 60s. I know ages can be fudged a little, but Scotty should only be in his mid to late 30s at this point.
Speaking of which, I've wondered if their plan long-term is to transition into a psuedo-reboot of TOS. We've never seen the beginning of Kirk's 5 year mission, doing some kind of "TOS: Year One" show would be the least of Kirkman-Trek's affronts to canon. [Reply]

Hmm. I didn't realize he was that old. But I guess to have a World War II vet as a dad, he'd pretty much have to be. [Reply]
Just finished the season finale. Not only the best episode of the season, but it ranks among the best Star Trek episodes ever. Absolutely fantastic. [Reply]

Ok, this is high praise coming from you. Going to go check this out immediately. [Reply]

OK. Good. Because if you said anything other than that I would have told you to go fuck yourself. That shit was golden. [Reply]
