Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy! [Reply]

Strange how times change. A player going into his second full year is called a "Rookie" by the media. But when that same player marched into a freezing Mile high as a True Rookie QB along with a bunch of second stringers- and won- the game is now called MEANINGLESS. It meant Nothing.
I guess people forget all the years in a row we lost up there in that thin air against those cheaters greased up with cooking spray.
Even though the playoff rankings were decided- any time you beat the Donks in their house- it Means something- especially, with a ROOKIE QB against a majority of their starters. If Mahomes would have lost- Donk fans would never stop crowing about it-but he drove our team down for the game winner- so it is MEANINGLESS!! [Reply]

People are like well he did okay against a meaningless Denver defense.
There were at least two passes that should have been caught for touchdowns by our backups and that rushing touchdown was about two inches from being good.
If he had 300, 2TD 1 Rush TD 1 INT every talking head would be all over him. [Reply]

That back shoulder fade to Robinson was one of his best passes/decisions. Couldn’t have put it in a better spot. [Reply]
Matt Derrick was on with Cody Tapp a couple days ago. He was watching the “bad” Mahomes practice.
He was asked what Mahomes needs to work on and he said zone defense and exotic looks. Said Nelson’s pick 6 was in zone.
Makes me think that Andy saying these practices are testing what Mahomes “can get away with” is basically him preparing Pat for tons of different looks on defense, mostly being zone.
I can’t see many teams being brave enough to play man coverage against us for very long. [Reply]

How Favre was defensed is how DCs will defense PM2. PM2 is going to have to work on the ol bluff cadence a lot to get them to show their hand to some degree. Manning was brilliant at that and why he needed 15 seconds to go through all the bluffing so he could make the right audible if needed. [Reply]

Only a fool would play man coverage vs our base package.... honestly any package with Watkins/Hill/Kelce/Hunt would destroy every (no exaggeration) Man Defense in the league...
Especially in Andy Ried high low concept, basically if Mahomes sees Man Coverage he will have 4+ audibles he can give to switch any one of those guys to the Hot Read or Go Target.
Man Coverage - High Single will be obliterated.... second he sees that audible to Hill/Watkins on a Go/Go route or Go/Post and they are fucked....
Man Coverage - Two High will be equally as fucked, audible for Kelce/Hunt to run a seam/slant and you have our TE and RB matched up on LBers
Cover 2 - again fuuuuuucckkkkked, Watkins runs a corner route, Hill runs and Corner-Post-corner route Kareem flags out to flat on Kelces side of line opening up Hitch route...
Again there are a million things that Mahomes can do, this season will come down to him being able to read defenses and check to the option play with the highest probability. Andy is going to show him a lot of Zone Blitz and Zone Man combos this offseason to teach him different ways of making the defense tip their hand. Him learning what calls to audible and adjustments to make to counter different looks will be key.
All that is before you add in Mahomes natural ability to Throw and Improvise on the fly.
The reason Andy and the Staff were willing to move on from Alex Smith was because the last part I mentioned is KEY. He can simply make throws Alex couldn't (most QBs can't)
And
He can improvise on broken plays for big gains. AND on plays that are not broken his no look pass could be the difference between 10-15 yards and 30-TD [Reply]
If you wanna get an easy read on a defense early you just do what the Pats do. Spread them out empty and see who follows the RB wide.
Andy can do a lot to make it easier as Pat grows. However, Brady is still doing these things here at 41 years old so it’s just common sense really to do it continually. [Reply]

Andy was Farve's QB coach...and when Veach showed him Mahomes college tape...Reid actually said "this guy is Farve".
It's like history repeating itself...and Andy has seen this style of QB before.
I'm excited as Farve was my favorite QB to watch of all time...and PM looks a lot like him.
What ever happens...Chiefs games just got a lot more entertaining. [Reply]
