Serious question: when is the last time you can recall Philip Rivers slinging a long TD pass against the Chiefs?

I was trying to think back and it’s really hard. The point I’m looking to make is that dude’s arm has been in a steep decline the past few years, and I don’t see it getting any better. I think our coaches know this and scheme to make him attempt those longer, low percentage passes.

The Chargers are gonna be a media letdown. Again.

Sheesh. Almost 4 years ago. And even then just a 27-yarder to Gates. I would have guessed the game winner at Arrowhead in 2013.

Everyone is expecting Mahomes to struggle and the Chiefs to finish dead last in the division. Thank God for Peter Schager who actually understands what’s going on in KC.

“They lost Alex Smith!” No we didn’t “lose” him. We have him the fuck away. God you would think Andy would get a little more credit for his QB knowledge.
"The Chiefs trading him shows how underrated Alex Smith really is."

:-) Yeah the CHIEFS are underrating Alex Smith. If only they had all the insight of NFL an Network circle jerk. Andy Reid must be so embarrassed.

I personally don’t like how everyone talks about Mahomes as if he is a rookie. He’s not. I don’t care if he only played one game. He is not a rookie.

He knows the playbook, he’s been through a full NFL season, he’s seen how things operate. He is at the point now where mentally his focus is beyond play calls and what routes are being ran, and is now focusing on all facets such as what the defense is presenting.

We can’t say the same for Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, or any other true rookie.

Mahomes will have had roughly 500 days of possible practice time with the Chiefs and familiarity with the playbook by the time he starts the first game of the season. He'll have had 9 games of experience. What's more he'll have weapons that Deshaun Watson doesn't have and an arm that Watson doesn't have.

I really don't see why anybody needs to pump the brakes on this "rookie". He's ready to go.

No offense to what you said, but we've really gotta move on from this Deshaun Watson stuff. He has nothing to do with Mahomes right now.

It's really not a competition between the two. They're both good. Leave it at that.

Biggest thing for Pat this year is the mental aspect. He showed a ton of growth last year in that area. He read a lot of the Broncos defensive playcalls beautifully and acted on blitzes.

As much as many people here hate him, Alex was a huge part of this part of Pat’s development and now he’s gone. Alex is a very good processer reading the play pre-snap, but he’s an average at best implementer whereas Pat was the total opposite entering the league.

Andy bringing in Henne was obvious but also bringing in McGloin was by design. With Nagy and Alex gone, Andy needs as much veteran assistance on the sideline and in the QB room as possible.

We will see how Pat does once teams have film on him and can scheme against his strengths. We probably won’t know that until at least October when he’s played a handful of games.

We'll find out in 72 days when they compete against each other.

I use Watson because people act like it's crazy to believe that Mahomes can set the world on fire and that's exactly what Watson did.

I agree with this

but he has played in one game, with backups...so while he may not be a "True rookie", he also inst a True 2nd year PLAYER either. The game he played in was meaningless also....

They have a term for this...This will be his 1st starting season. He gets the keys to the car. He is something in between the guys you mentioned and a guy who has started multiple games in the nfl....

I know its difficult for morons like 3 bag to grasp but there is something in beween "true rookie" and "second year vet"

The guy has played 1 meaningless NFL game using an offense that was a work in progress and mainly for another player (smith).....and most of the game he didnt even have #1s at his side and /or wasnt even going up against #1's...it was a zero pressure situation , pretty much...and he was not as well known then either.

this season will be different , and teams will be gunning for him and know who he is.....

theres a little grey area between rookie and 2nd year starter, and thats where mahomes is.
