IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

We need to have a clear view here. I get that Mahomes is basically CP’s prodigy child, but we need to be honest.

Mahomes made quite a few bad decisions in college that should have been intercepted but weren’t. He also had to do this bc he had to score a TD every drive to even be in games due to a historically bad defense.

But you saw this trend multiple times in preseason. He threw some really bad passes that should have been intercepted.

The good thing is that he had real NFL elite level QB coaching for roughly 8 months and his start in Denver showed big improvement.

Even then it’s still an issue he needs to work on.

All rookies throw interceptions. That doesn't mean Mahomes is inaccurate or some fungunner that makes bad decisions all over the place.

I'm expecting a Kirk Cousins type year

I don't think it's unrealistic he throws for 4000 yards (look what he did with backups vs denver).

I'm thinking something like 27 tds 13 ints 4k+ yards.

Right. Take Mahomes 10 interceptions on 591 attempts, then equate that ratio to guys from this class (2017 numbers)

Josh Allen 6 interceptions on 270 attempts

Baker Mayfield 6 interceptions on 404 attempts

Mason Rudolph 9 interceptions on 489 attempts

Sam Darnold 13 interceptions on 480 attempts

Josh Rosen 10 interceptions on 452 attempts

The only one with a lower INT % on this list is Mayfield.

Is Mahomes the only guy that has ever thrown a pass that could have been picked? Seems to occur a few times every NFL game I watch.

And if you’re team is really special like the Chiefs, those passes that you should intercept actually end up being caught for a completion by the opponent most of the time!

4600 yards passing
350 rushing (5 rushing TDS)
8.9ypa
33tds
8 ints
79 total qbr
92qb rating

I think those are fairly realistic if he stays healthy and the OL holds up.

I'm not going to give a shit about interceptions when he's using his big dick gunslinging abilities to drive us back down and make up for it the next drive.

:-)

Those numbers you gave literally come out to a 106 QB rating.

I would be surprised if he had less than 30 TD’s unless he gets hurt.
Goff is way more limited and he had 28 TD’s with a less talented offense.

I’m thinking more along the lines of 31 TD’s, 15 INT’s and somewhere around 4,500 yards.

Goff seemed to miss Watkins a lot and they were also way more dependent on Todd Gurley where Andy will probably throw it around.

You do realize that Mahomes was compared to Brett Favre right? You do know that Favre has more INT’s than anyone in NFL history, more than 50 INT’s than the 2nd most QB with INT’s (George Blanda).

We need him to be more Aaron Rodgers than Brett Favre IMO. And I think he will be in time thanks to Andy Reid.

So what are we worried about

Between Jeff Allen, inaccurate QB rating numbers, and a fear of interceptions, this page of the thread has taken a weird turn.

If Mahomes throws 4500 yards next year (lol) can you imagine how it would feel to be Alex Smith and see that? When your career year you had to scrape out 4000 yards by building up to it for 12 seasons and finally getting over the hump through blood, sweat and tears?

And then that's worth 70m guaranteed?

Being bad Brett Favre.

Pat made some throws like that last year, but the Denver game showed a lot of improvement in that area. I think it was his shitty ass coaching from Kingsbury that never taught him any mechanics in college, so Andy had to start over in some areas.

I can’t remember who it was, but they mentioned that it was important that Andy got Pat early to work with him so he was taught properly immediately entering the NFL.

I think Aaron Rodgers is a good example of someone who learned the right way. He’s great bc he plays is aggressive when he needs to be whereas Favre just did whatever the hell he wanted and threw 20+ picks like 8 years of his career :-)

It’s probably the biggest area for Pat to improve and Andy has really hammered at ti, so next year will be interesting to see where he’s at.
