IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

Alex is gone, presumably his limitations go with him.
Reid is here. What effect will his limitations have?
Sutton is here, with the full faith and credit of the franchise. What effect will his limitations have?
Does Mahomes have limitations that have to be coached, or is he a font of limitless joy that Reid can only get out of the way of?

Look, I'd love to get on board with you lot, if only you would stake a stance.

Half the time it sounds like we're set to go 19-0 all by blowouts, with the opposition slumping their shoulders and giving up in shame and amazement mid-game. The other half the time, you insist that it's unfair to expect anything more than to be competitive in the playoffs in a few years.

Tell me what level of excitement you expect to conform both to reality and your existing narrative. Clearly, you are the be all and end all of what makes a proper fan [I mean, that mythical vast majority of reasonable fans are still remarkably silent].

You know who I was talking about. Most of that talk is putting the board Denver fans in their place :-) Beating starters with the third string in your debut tends to add some swagger.

Are you saying that the people who are anticipating teams simply giving up in awe of Mahomes' unprecedented skills are the ones who are trolling?

Are you admitting that you too are concerned about the balance between Mahomes' wild tendencies and Reid's gimmicky tendencies are something we will have to face if we actually want to win?

Is it possible that it's still a team game, which at its base is all I've ever said?

I get it, you are putting up a brave front that we've jettisoned the 'hard way' of building a competitive team, and are trumpeting that the right QB will fix a shitty team. But c'mon. A century of professional football stands testament that things return to the mean, that NFL seasons expose EVERY flaw.

I am as excited about Mahomes as anyone with realistic expectations can possibly be. That doesn't mean that I think the NFL has turned into a one-person sport where a singular talent will change everything about the game.

I want the Mahomes era to be the most successful era in franchise history. And I don't think pollyannish views does anyone any favors. We have plenty of adversity to face, and it's better to be girded for it than blindsided by it.
Why? Why not enjoy the **** out of it? Maybe we'll go 0-16, but why should that matter to us fans at all right now?

Absolutely nothing wrong with allowing people to enjoy the moment and the potential of brilliant quarterback. We literally haven't had anything like this in a half-century or so.

I must say though, it is a relief that it appears that Mahomes and Reid have already figured out all the possible permutations of when it's proper for Mahomes to tell Reid to fuck off and sling it, and when it's proper for Reid to tell Mahomes to fuck off and follow the script. It would be retarded for us to allow egos to interfere with certain generational domination.

I think Mahomes wins 12-15 Super Bowls with 8-10 league MVP’s. I figure since he’s 22 now that he has 23-28 years left in the game. He will end up with about 1000+ touchdown passes & close to 125,000 passing yards.

I figure the day he retires I’ll pass away with my Mahomes jersey on. I’ll be in my 80’s & have witnessed all 16 Chiefs Super Bowl wins. I’ll die happy.

Thank you 2PM.

I don't know. I don't make the rules.

Why was there a committed and vitriolic campaign to remove all enjoyment from the past five years?

But now that these committed and vitriolic campaigners have had their PARTICULAR preferences catered to, all caution is considered 'being a wet blanket.'

I thought the sole landmark for success and enjoyability was a SB championship. Now it seems anyone who isn't content with offseason daydreaming about 'exciting' QB play, regardless of the franchise accomplishments, is as verboten as expressing any excitement about team progress from the depths of ignominy was in recent history.

I'll say it: not only was the style of Alex Smith Football anti-fun to watch, but we had limited success in the playoffs. Mahomes at the bare minimum looks to satisfy the fun to watch criteria.

How did your fun-o-meter register when DT, Neil, Saleaumua, Carter, et al shut people down week after week?

How about when Green, our O-line, Priest and Gonzo were matriculating all over?

How does your fun-o-meter spike when the Pro Bowl QB skills competition comes up once a year?

I'm trying to get on everyone's page. Because if history is any indication, if a fan 'enjoys' the Chiefs the 'wrong way' they are in for a world of hurt from a vindictive fanbase.

I watch lots of football, more than just the Chiefs. I saw plenty of 'fun' QB from the likes of Marino's Dolphins, the Lions of the past decade, the Cowboys under Romo, the Colts before Manning got a defense to help him, Cunningham and Moss with the Vikings, etc. etc.

Do we want fun, or do we want to win a championship.

And while we're at it, why do we even pay non-QBs to play for us? We don't respect them. We don't like them. They're apparently ornaments. We gave millions to Houston, DJ, Berry, Priest, LJ, Charles, Gonzo, Roaf, Waters, etc. etc. for absolutely no value. Shouldn't we propose they play for us for the opportunity to raise their profile so they can make their wasted millions elsewhere for inferior teams?

If you're a Chiefs fan, be a fan of the Chiefs. If you're a fan of fun QB play, just admit it proudly.

Gil Brandt is Senile. But we knew that. He has now embarrassed himself with a ranking of the 12 quarterbacks taking in the first round the last 5 years. The article goes in depth about each of the quarterbacks, so it's way to long to post. I will provide the link for those who want to follow it. I will include his order and his piece on Mahomes.

1. Wentz - I agree. Good start
2. Winston. Seems high to me
3. Mariota
4. Bortles - What??? Uh no!
5. Goff - Not from what I've seen
6. Watson
7. Trubisky
8. Bridgewater
9. Mahomes - Really?? 9?? He sucks at this. He only beats out 3 colossal busts???
10 Lynch. Now that seems accurate but Mahomes is just one spot above this bust??
11. Manuel
12. Manzel

Mahomes is going to break every KC passing record in the book. It won't even be difficult.
