Sources: Chiefs are signing kicker Spencer Shrader off the Jets practice squad and placing kicker Harrison Butker on injured reserve due to a knee injury. pic.twitter.com/4fmiBTvHaB

Yup.
Red Zone decisions might get a little more interesting now as well. As in, if we know we may need a longer FG later, with Butker you take the automatic 3 here and assume the likely automatic 3 later.
With this dude it may change the calculus a little and make the Chiefs more apt to go for 7 on 4 downs when they get inside the 20, unlike the situation with Denver last week where we settled for the 3 FG's in the red zone. [Reply]
Probably should see less of the gadgety stuff and the vanilla plays. Andy might have to break out the platinum (plutonium?)-grade RZ plays for the next month. And, hopefully, less trying to force plays to Justyn Ross/JWat/whoever, more to Travis and Nuk. In fact, I 100% expect DHop to be featured a ton more in the RZ now. [Reply]

He did make some HUGE kicks for Mizzou, but he was just a 79% FG kicker his last 2 years there, so not exactly automatic.
Not gonne lie, part of me wanted this because the Bills worked out Mevis earlier this year when Bass was struggling, but passed on signing him. Imagine if the Chiefs signed him, brought him in and he beat them on a GW FG. Holy Shit! The meltdown in Buffalo would be epic! :-)
Between 'punt god' and the 'thicker kicker', you would be able to hear the knashing of teeth all the way from Buffalo . . . . . [Reply]
Now we will find out how valuable Butker is. I have always thought he has been underappreciated and after Mahomes and Jones is our most valuable player.
If Mahomes can start hitting worthy when he is wide-open, which is often at least several times a game it won’t be so important [Reply]

Apparently Harrison Butker did this in 2023 too. I wonder if he’s done it since his left ankle injury in 2022, or maybe he’s had a small meniscus tear for a while and has avoided planting to avoid shear force in his left knee.
I find that interesting. Wouldn't a physical evaluation caught that, assuming they would have done a full body scan and tests in 2023 and 2024 training camps? :-) [Reply]
