Nzoner's Game Room>What Songs or Movies Make You Cry?
GabyKeepsMeWarm 12:21 AM 06-27-2024
I’m a bit of a softy, especially with music and certain films/scenes from films.

And it’s a bit all over the place.

Since my dad died, I can’t listen to My Father’s House by Springsteen, and I’ve never been a big Bruce fan. But I listen to that now, and I’m crushed.

Certain operas/arias bring me to tears.

Transatlanticism by Death Cab is always rough, even if I’m in a great mood. I’ll end up drifting back into some former relationship and it’ll get me misty eyed.

Too many songs bring tears to my eyes for reasons of joy, sadness, yearning, etc…

Here’s a weird one. Superman The Movie. Christopher Reeve. When he grabs Lois and that helicopter(pilots inside) from falling from the roof, I snort cry. I just wish sometimes there was this “miracle man” who could do stuff like that and give us all something to believe in and be so thankful it exists.

Private Ryan, Schindler’s List, Sling Blade…. All crushers…

What do you have?

I drive your truck by Lee Brice. It hits me because I have never been one to go to a grave to remember someone. To me it's just a marker and corpse there. When I want to remember someone, like my Grandad, I go to the farm where my memories of him are. So, when I hear that song, I relate to it and get a little misty about my Grandad

Shortly after my Father passed away in 2011, I penned a story about him in a blog I used to keep. He taught me all about baseball and football and he was my first baseball coach.

I can't watch Field of Dreams without getting a big lump in my throat....and like you when he says "wanna have a catch" it's hard for me not to cry.

When We Were Kings gets me like that.

Getting to see Ali at the ass-end of his prime and that despite his lack of knowledge of how the world really works you can see he wanted to make the world a better place. He wanted to stick up for people like himself. That flick you see as he finally realizes he can do something to inspire people. He'll get his moment to really move people...if he's up to it.

And you see what Foreman was before he reinvented himself. He was a silent assassin back then who didn't care about squat. He was completely broken, lost his will, and reinvented who he was as a human. Later in his life he also inspired people in a different way.

Basically any Electric Light Orchestra song, especially Tightrope and Showdown. They were my Dads favorite band.

Also cried quite a bit when we won Super Bowl 54 because dad wasn’t here to see it. Still got a bit teary for Super Bowl 57 and 58 just not like I did with 54.

I fucking hate country music, so luckily it’s easy for me to avoid this devil of a song.

Dont Take the Girl

Shit makes the room dusty if you know what I mean.

Also even though I know all about Bob Marley and have read many books etc on him, watching One Love made me tear up a few times. Nobody more righteous than him, and they fucking tried to assassinate him.

Lot of good ones in here. Field of Dreams definitely gets me too, whew...

Elephant Man from 1980 destroys me. That movie is so great, but just so cruel and sad. Messes me up for like a week.

And a recent one, that really got to me was strangely enough, Top Gun 2: Maverick. I think most of it had to do with me getting older, my dad dying, sentimentalizing, all that stuff... Was doing great throughout the whole movie until the end, and when Lady Gaga hit that big swell, I fucking lost it. Just pouring tears.

Anyway... another song... Bright Eyes by Art Garfunkel. Gulp. Was written and performed as part of the score for Watership Down, another equally sad-fest.
