Bonitto was lined up so far out he was basically in the slot. You could hear Mahomes make a call before the snap to help Kingsley bc even he knew that no LT could block that wide angle.

Steele just fucked up and did the wrong thing running to the flat. You can’t have a RB missing an assignment like that bc he doesn’t know where to be.

Perine has to be the guy in those situations not Steele.

It looks to my untrained eye that he is playing super slow. Maybe it's a mental thing?

Steele is quickly playing himself out of a spot. I wonder if they activate CEH and sit Steele this weekend.

This might just be a miscommunication. And yeah, it may STILL be Kingsley's fault, but remember late last season when everyone was saying "Just chip at LT..." and I think it was Schwartz that was saying "Guys, it's not that simple..."

He was telling folks that 'just chip' isn't a panacea because most OTs struggle to deal with that chip help when they don't know how the chip is going to actually go. Kingsley has no way to know that Kelce's not just going to redirect the guys shoulder but instead is going to shove him across into the adjacent gap.

A lot of the time a chip is just designed to turn a guy sideways and keep his hands down so the OT can get into him. Kelce did way more than that there and shoved him clear into the other gap.

Now maybe that was what he was supposed to do but it's also possible, even likely, that Kelce just got a little amped up and put more into it than Kingsley expected.

That is MUCH more complicated than y'all are making it. Because if Kelce doesn't blast that guy and Kingsley doesn't set up wide there, the rusher just beats him to the outside again. And Kingsley is completely reactionary there. He has no way to know what Kelce is going to do there until he does it.

You think that’s maybe Kelce trying to do a little too much to help?

Knows the rookie LT is getting his ass kicked, so he blasts a guy thinking that will make his life easier?

Yes. And I said it in the game thread in real time.

You could see it clear as day from the stands, Kelce just absolutely blasted the guy right into the other gap.

When I saw it, I immediately thought that Kelce had overcooked the chip.

Has there ever been an OL that has looked as bad as Kingsley and worked out?

Yes I get Fisher struggled mightily he first year starting. Even struggled year 2. He was not anywhere near this bad though.

This is KeiVarae Russell territory. I seriously have to wonder if Andy Heck has brought up the possibility that this kid just isn’t an NFL player and they blipped the pick.

Not trying to be negative here but I just don’t see anything that flashes for him aside from his athleticism on screens.

Wasn’t Garett Bolles pretty bad his rookie year?

I'm sure there will be some play by play breakdowns of his performance over the course of the week.

And I don't think they're gonna paint a rosy picture by any means.

But I do think they'll demonstrate that he wasn't out there tripping over his feet on every play. He showed a decent base and functional strength. He showed solid athleticism. He showed some traits.

He just couldn't handle Bonitto at all. Especially when he was out in that 9 position. I'm hopeful someone like Keysor does a breakdown of some of the plays where he was successful because I think there were more than you realize.

There was a play where Mahomes got hit, maybe late 2nd quarter, deeper in our territory. And EVERYONE in the game thread bagged on Kingsley. I really didn't understand it because I specifically watched him on the play and he stood his guy up and then drove him inside into the trash. And eventually Mahomes got hit but it was because the pocket just got pushed in and he held the ball waaaaaay too long. But Kingsley did his job there yet he was still getting trashed because Mahomes took contact.

Maybe I missed it - I'm open to that possibility. But it's certainly not what I saw.

While McKinnon might not have the same speed that he once had, this is a situation where having him still would be very valuable.

Guessing Steele is still an upgrade over CEH in special teams and they still may have a small short yardage package where Steele is the fullback. So I am guessing not.

Looks to me like he doesn't anticipate and get deep enough on speed rushes on obvious passing downs.

I mean the coaching staff knows what is going on... we started running more this season because the LT is a weakness and to keep the rush honest.

My guess is yes, but we didn’t know it. Guys like this (physical traits are there but they otherwise suck) take a “redshirt” year to develop and you never know how they look, because they don’t see the field. You see a lot of “green” rookies back up a vet on a cheap deal for a year or two.

That wouldn’t be limited to the Chiefs.

I think we've been spoiled with instant gratification when it comes to previous rookie classes. This one might need to bake for a few more years....
