"She put her body on top of Lilly’s to try and protect her after the attack started," Bennard's uncle by marriage, Jeff Gibson told USA TODAY on Saturday. "Both (dogs) started attacking her while she lay on Lilly."The two children were pronounced dead when officials arrived at the home, the sheriff's office reported.
It was not immediately known what provoked the mauling. The mauling, Gibson said, lasted about 10 minutes. The dogs – two pit bulls that belonged to the family – were euthanized at Memphis Animal Services Thursday.
The family owned the pets, Cheech and Mia, for more than eight years without a violent incident, Kelsey Canfield, the mother's best friend, told Fox News.
"I can promise you those children were her world, and if there was any inkling of danger, she would have never had those dogs near her kids," Canfield told the outlet. "Those children were everything to them, and they just have a really long journey ahead."
How do you feel about PittBull's? I posted this because my wife shared this story with me and my son was just recently participating in a "read to sheltered dogs" event where you could adopt a dog (I know brilliant).
I've heard the arguments that PittBull's get a bad wrap, but it seems time and time again they are the focal point of dogs who do these horrible acts. [Reply]

Jeremy Miller, 38, was charged last week on seven attack by animal charges, all class B misdemeanors.
In October 2023, an officer with the Taylorsville City Police Department responded to South Shakestone Drive on reports of an animal attack.
The officer said that as he climbed the fence to enter the backyard, he saw several pit bulls with “blood on and around their mouths and appeared to be in a frenzy,” according to the affidavit.
When the officer got to the victim, identified as Sandra Miller, he said she had “extensive injuries” on her face and hands, making her unable to move.
“Her leg had no flesh on it and only the bone remained,” the affidavit states. “There was so much blood [the officer] could not see her other injuries.”
The affidavit states the dogs remained “extremely aggressive,” taking multiple police and animal control officers to keep the dogs away from the victim and contained in the yard.
A female pit bull reportedly tried to escape, but the affidavit states an officer shot her six times “and noticed other officers shot her as well.” The other dogs were taken into custody.
Officers said they found a phone number for Sandra’s son, Jeremy, who confirmed he lived at the address where the incident took place. Jeremy reportedly arrived home approximately 20 minutes later, “clearly upset about his fence being damaged and his dogs being taken by animal control,” the affidavit states.
Sandra was taken to a hospital but later died as a result of her injuries.
Son charged after mother killed by his pack of seven pit bulls
Sandra Miller died from her injuries a few days after the attack in October 2023
A man in Utah is facing seven charges over the death of his mother after his pit bulls attacked and killed her in October last year.
Jeremy Miller, 38, was charged with seven counts of attack by animal earlier this week.
His mother, 63-year-old Sandra Miller, was left with multiple injuries to her hands, face and legs in the attack in Taylorsville on 31 October.
One of her legs had to be amputated, according to KSL News Radio, but she died a few days later.
When police officers first arrived on the scene, they tried using pepper spray to corral the seven dogs.
"The dogs were still extremely aggressive, and it took multiple Taylorsville City Police officers and animal control officers to keep the dogs away from the victim and contained in the yard," charging documents seen by Fox 13 read.
After the victim was taken to safety, officers tried approaching the dogs and the mother tried to escape from the group, the outlet reported. At this point, the dog was shot at least six times.
Mr Miller was then called and he arrived at the home around 20 minutes later.
"[He] was clearly upset about his fence being damaged and his dogs being taken by animal control," documents read.
The other six dogs were reportedly put down later on.
While Mr Miller was not at home at the time, the charging documents reportedly say that he was responsible for the dogs and therefore is liable for the offence.............
I knew a backyard breeder once. Worked in an office environment and spent his days watching dog (pits) coitus. When he'd speak with clients on the phone he'd make sure to be loud and talk about his fleet of bitches. And this all happened around a rabid feminist. It was entertaining. I imagine that his situation was similar to this. [Reply]
According to the radio broadcast on KSL, the amputation surgery lasted 12 hours. She was attacked while feeding the dogs and lived for a week after the attack. [Reply]

The others joined with instinctual pack behavior.
I've actually had my own dog snap at me over resource guarding but he never fucking tried to eat me :-)
Fucking demons.
God you’re stupid. Unless you’re dealing with a problem dog the American Pitbull Terrier’s are one the least food aggressive dogs period. I have always been able to put my hand in their bowls.
Nothing like getting opinions from a bloody giner that’s never even owned the breed. Go buy yourself some pepper spray and an emergency whistle wussy boy. [Reply]

That only makes it worse. That just means they are bloodthirsty demons with a taste for human flesh. Mom was probably on her period and they got a whiff.
I don't need a whistle because I avoid the areas they live entirely now. I'm not getting my dog's throat ripped out or my skull crushed.
If one of them ever comes in my backyard it will be shot full of 9mm rounds. [Reply]
“Don’t get it twisted guys! There is no way this pack of murderous pit bulls that mauled their owner’s elderly mother were food aggressive! Also you are so dumb!”
Big Daddy is eloquent and a natural spokesperson for setting the record straight about pit bulls. I don’t see how any of us ever had this backwards. All hail BD! [Reply]
