Nzoner's Game Room>*****Official 2024 Royals Season Repository Thread*****
ChiefsCountry 11:36 AM 01-01-2024

Year Two of the Matt Quatraro tenure. Time to take a step up this year. Active in free agency and trades this offseason. A new look pitching rotation and bullpen. Will the young players take the leap up offensively? Bobby Witt extension? New stadium? Will Vinny recover from injury? Salvy taking aim at the Royals record book? Will Cole Ragans turn into the best Royals starting pitcher since Greinke 1.0?

Michael Wacha, SP
Kyle Wright, SP
Hunter Renfroe, OF/DH
Will Smith, RP

Royals top prospect Blake Mitchell homered as part of a three-hit day this morning. Here's what it looked like from the open side. pic.twitter.com/NM5R6oYmCG

From Baseball Prospectus

Blake Mitchell, C, Kansas City Royals (Low-A Columbia): 3-4, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI.
A lefty-swinging prep catcher who was taken eighth overall in the most recent draft, Mitchell snuck onto the Top 101 thanks to his extremely high upside. Prep catchers do tend to be an extremely high-variance demographic, of course, due both to their high level of positional risk and the fact that they’re literal teenagers. Mitchell is a very good athlete whose catching has graded out well enough in a small sample, but his .220/.383/.380 line entering Wednesday indicates that he is still adjusting to pro pitching.

Chandler Champlain doesn’t belong in AA anymore. He was marvelous tonight.

6.1IP, 3H, 0ER, 1BB, 10 SO

The last pitch here I believe is the circle change he added late last year/this off-season. Absolutely attacking the zone with efficiency. 85 pitches to get 10K over 6.1 IP. pic.twitter.com/EpHK1VnceD

It seems like some good things are happening in the minors...this regime seems to be a lot more competent all around.

The minors is still pretty shit, but you can't blame the new regime for that. They've only had one draft. I'll give them a couple years to see how they build it.

Drew Waters went 4-for-6 with 4 RBI in tonight's 9-8 extra innings victory in St. Paul.

The series against the Saints will continue tomorrow at 6:37 p.m.

The A's are visiting Kansas City for the last time with the Oakland lettering across their chests.

It makes me think back to when the Athletics were ours:

A 59-year-old Satchel Paige is served coffee in a rocking chair in the Athletics bullpen between innings of his scoreless 3-inning outing against the Red Sox. He hadn't pitched professionally in 4 years. Came out and kept the Sox to 10 batters over 3 innings. Only hit was to Yaz pic.twitter.com/W3ievcNIYo

Lowest league OBP in a month since strike-zone/mound-height changes in 1969:

September 1971, .305
May 1972, .305
***May 2024, .306***
April 2022, .307
September 1972, .308

Good article, and I agree, they gotta do something if everything they mentioned continues.

I feel like the article doesn't actually solve the problem. Bringing up Waters doesn't solve anything. His slash line is inflated highly but his .400ish babip. His expected results suck even for the minors.

If you want to improve the outfield production, you are going to either have to solve the riddles confronting your existing players or go get one externally.
