Nzoner's Game Room>Guys aged 65+ what was it like to be a young man in the 80's?
TinyEvel 06:24 PM 02-11-2025
Something to take my mind off the events of this past weekend....

Older dudes, what was it like to be an adult the 80s?

Was it like printing money?

Did you have a Camaro? A van? A Nissan Pulsar?

Did you try the cocaine?

Did you go to US festival?

Other than the Chiefs being in the abyss, what was it like?

Give us all the good stuff.

Awesome.

That's a hell of a gig.

I graduated HS in 1979. Started college pre-med at NWMSU. Had a blast as a freshman but my dad was diagnosed with cancer and died in 1981. College wasn't that much fun after that. GPA dropped and switched majors and graduated in 1985. Went job hunting and joined the Army because they matched what I could make with the Bachelor's I'd just gotten. Was in uniform until 1997 then worked as a Army civilian until I retired in 2017. Topless schwimmbads in the late 80's in Germany were fun but for every 10 there was 5 1's. 80's ended on a high note when I married my first wife but the 90's cratered when she died in 1992. 2 bad anniversaries this month.

I graduated from HS in 1991. My experiences weren't all that different from the guys here that are 10 years older.

I started college in 1980. Banged a lot. Was an RA in 81, banged more. Independent intramural champs in wrestling, softball, and soccer. My buds were champs at racket ball, swimming and archery. (We were despised by many) After college I was in the restaraunt industry, including a managers spot in the north Chicago suburbs. Talk about cocaine. IT TRULY WAS EVERYWHERE. Banged more. I didn't get married until 94 because, well, banging. Married the wrong one for sure. Recently the one I shoulda married died, so I guess I dodged that bullet. Played indoor soccer from 1980 to 2005 (often multiple games in one night) and retired from softball in 2016. Pitching can get dangerous. I've seen the Eagles, Pink Floyd, Don Henley, Sting(3rd row), Fleetwood Mac (twice), John Mellencamp (front row), Ozark Mountain Daredevils, David Bowie, Rolling stones (twice), Molly Hatchet, Garth Brooks and more that my brain can't come up with (cocaine) (JK).

As Jimmy sang, "I've made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast. Never meant to last...."

Oh, my bad, i'm only 64. I shouldn't have posted......

I would go back and relive it again, in a second, but would have been much kinder.

Side note: Many of the women I did kinky stuff with now look like Aunt Bea from the Andy Griffith Show. My sexual conquests can make up a very surreal Mayberry.

Don't know what it was like as an adult it the 80s, but growing up in that decade was a blast. Malls, arcades and movie theaters seemed like the babysitters of the 80s. Way more sociable environment than what kids have now where everything seems like it is through a screen with helicopter parents. Sure we played our fair share of video games, but you actually went to people's houses to do it.

I'm still friends with my first high school girlfriend - we reconnected on Facebook about 15 years ago. At the time, she was still very pretty and looked 10 years younger than me. But since then she has had a myriad of serious health problems that have absolutely ravaged her. Now she looks 20 years older than me.

I was in college in a suburb of L.A. from 88-93. It was awesome.

I worked at a home improvement store selling lighting/electrical and tried hard af to hook up with most ladies who would buy lamps. Never converted tho.

We used to go into Hollywood three nights a week. We tried to act rich but were broke college kids.

I had one Hugo Boss suit that I bought at Marshall's, we'd go to the velvet ropes clubs like The Roxbury, The Gate, Bar Marmont, Eva's which was owned by a playmate.

We had all kinds of ways to sneak into these places to fake being important. I would go to college marketing events and get the business cards of the industry people. Was always looking to meet the dudes who work in media (at the radio and TV stations etc) then I would flash the one of the business cards at the door of the club, e.g. "Hey there... Steve Hamilton from Paramount, I have an important client here from Japan looking to have a good time here." (my friend was Asian, we both had our designer outlet store suits on.)

Or we'd make a dinner reservations at the Roxbury and the door person would let us in the ropes to go check in upstairs and we would make a quick left into the night club.

One night we were at Eva and Tony Curtis was there dancing with two 20 year old models. He had a smile on his face a mile wide. We'd meet these insanely hot chicks, dance with them all night but then they would leave with millionaire Iranians or studio people.

I met a Swedish girl who was "house sitting" for a doctor above the sunset strip for a week while he was in the Bahamas. I banged her all over that house for a solid week. We had sex to an entire Prince CD. I then ghosted on her cuz I didn't have a car and it was too hard to get to Hollywood to see her. I ran into her at a club a few weeks later and she straight up slapped me and walked away.

Great times.
