Media Center>Today's music is mostly GARBAGE
scho63 06:23 AM 02-03-2025
Last night the Grammy Awards were on. I stopped watching award shows about 30 years ago for a variety of reason.

I saw some headlines this morning about the winners.

The Song of the Year is Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us"

This song is a piece of shit and how this garbage would be considered Song of the Year tells me that the music industry is another woke crap infested dump.

It is just another industry in decline.

What a joke.....

On the one hand it’s not curated anymore and you don’t have really good DJs finding music you’ll like. On the other hand it’s as easy as ever to listen to what you want and not what someone is forcing you to as it was during the radio days.

Tom Petty wrote a great song about this.

Yeah this is one of my biggest beefs with the way we consume media now. Algorythms make our world smaller. You have to make a huge effort to get out of that.
It was cited as one of the reasons festivals are tanking. Lots of young people only know one or two bands on the bill so they don't see the value. (also, they are expensive, and also stated they don't have a friend to go with, which is one of the saddest facts of all)

For me, especially considering the type of music I listen to, it's that the way music is consumed now, it's kind of killed the concept of albums. Everybody is streaming basically like the radio. It's all top 100 stuff, single after single. Kids don't listen to albums anymore and for me, I find that kind of sad. Because just about every album I buy, there's one or two tracks that are better than the song I heard that made me want to buy the album in the first place.

He has a very limited selection of regurgitated responses that aren't even his own words, that's for sure.

He's been working thru some trauma since November. Really limits your scope for quips and comebacks. It's been tough on a lot of folks.

Some newish sounding bands I KIND OF like are The Neighbourhood, Foster the People, Twenty One Pilots, Grouplove, Bleachers, Glass Animals...but yes most of these bands are not even very new.
We like the same music.

I am a huge fan of Motown, Alternative, and Classic Rock, in that order.

I've only heard one song by Foster the People but I liked it.

That and it’s just harder to stay out late when you’re older. I go to a local show that starts at seven, I’m ready to go to bed after watching the first two bands if I didn’t have a nap earlier in the day.

I said it in this thread and you have to go back to 2023 to find the next instance.

Should I apply for permission to say something once every few years or how should I do this going forward?

It's kind of like saying today's cars are mostly garbage. If you go to the Ford dealership, you aren't going to find a Porsche, you're gonna get a Ford.

Stop shopping at dealerships. Find the music you want and seek it out. The Internet is a marvel of modern music.

I think I should add a clarification - The most POPULAR new stuff is garbage.

There is much greater talent that is unsigned, indie, up and coming etc.
