Nzoner's Game Room>What Songs or Movies Make You Cry?
GabyKeepsMeWarm 12:21 AM 06-27-2024
I’m a bit of a softy, especially with music and certain films/scenes from films.

And it’s a bit all over the place.

Since my dad died, I can’t listen to My Father’s House by Springsteen, and I’ve never been a big Bruce fan. But I listen to that now, and I’m crushed.

Certain operas/arias bring me to tears.

Transatlanticism by Death Cab is always rough, even if I’m in a great mood. I’ll end up drifting back into some former relationship and it’ll get me misty eyed.

Too many songs bring tears to my eyes for reasons of joy, sadness, yearning, etc…

Here’s a weird one. Superman The Movie. Christopher Reeve. When he grabs Lois and that helicopter(pilots inside) from falling from the roof, I snort cry. I just wish sometimes there was this “miracle man” who could do stuff like that and give us all something to believe in and be so thankful it exists.

Private Ryan, Schindler’s List, Sling Blade…. All crushers…

What do you have?

I've read that Duvall took his small but powerful role for SAG minimum, peanuts for a man of his stature... because he loved the story so much

This one.

First verse: Ok I'm fine.
Chorus: I'm a wreck.

There’s a point at the end where they go back to look for survivors and there’s just hundreds of dead bodies floating that they have to navigate through. 10-year old me held on strong til I saw one of the dead was an infant being held by its dead mother, then the floodgates opened.

The tear ducts had def gotten lubed up in the preceding scenes, specifically the woman tucking her kids into bed as the icy water rushed into their room as well as the old couple holding each other in bed.

Duvall. Total legend. In his 90's and still kicking. Some great stories out there about his days as a struggling young actor living in NYC with his buddies Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman. Can you imagine that? Three titans all living together?

The song doesn't usually get me, but I cried when The Flaming Lips played "Do You Realize??" at the Uptown last Sunday.

Motherfucker. The first time I heard that song was here. Maybe you even posted it. I don't think I cried, but I sat there numb for at least 10 minutes trying to wrap my head around WTF that was. Fuck.

Not a ton of songs hit me in the feels, but this one did. I've always been a sucker for Adam Lazarra's vocals.

Maybe it goes under movies, but this one hit me pretty good.

As far as movies, a lot of the overly sappy stuff doesn't hit. What's underrated is a good Gene Hackman closing monologue. Fucker got me twice. Once on Hoosiers and again on the Replacements.

Also I love me a good Theodin Speech.

Brantley Gilbert "One Hell of an Amen"...gets me every time, reminds me of my Father-in-law who tried his best to beat Leukemia but...didn't work out...these lyrics hammer me..this was Mac, he kicked ass for as long as he could...body just couldn't do it anymore.

"Doctor said he ain't got long
He just smiled and said "Bring it on
Well, if you think I'm scared
You got me all wrong"
"No, a little cancer can't break me
My heart's right and I believe"
We all hit our knees
And started prayin'
Lord, he never gave up
Just said, "The good Lord's waitin'

Eastwood, Duvall, Hackman, Hoffman... it sucks to think all three will never perform on screen again, they're all gonna start dropping like flies soon

Good grief I'm feeling old lately :-)

Saving Private Ryan is the list for me.

When he asks his wife at the end to tell him he lived a good life...gulp.
