This move very reminiscent of the Emmanuel Ogbah deal five years ago. Talented lengthy powerful and versatile EDGE who was miscast with his initial team, and then flipped for a sandwich.

I guess I'm saying I'd be more surprised if he stunk than if he turned into another meaningful contributor.

They kept switching defensive coaches. That’s the problem. James Bettcher was the DC when Reddick was drafted and he was a multi formation guy. Then they brought in Vance Joseph who does some multi formation but mainly 4-3. Then they bring in Gannon who is a 3-4 guy.

Too much turnover and conflicting philosophies to build anything

But they still didn't use him right.

In a 3-4, he's a set and forget OLB. In a 4-3 he's a situational rusher.

I think it was a situation where they let his draft status force him into an every down role and that's just not what he was best suited for. And why a 3-4 team made him an ILB is just beyond me. As noted above, that requires instincts that he just never demonstrated playing Edge in college.

It was silly decision.

Well there is a Cam Thomas on the nets... lol I find it hard to believe that the two would be confused for each other outside of the name. :-)

In my mind this is interesting because Thomas is expected to be good vs the run and setting the edge while FAU is awful at rhe run and passable vs the pass. So these two players compliment each other well

I went back and looked, the Cards had a 3rd lowest sack total in the league last season at 33. Obviously Cam isn't elite, good, or even average with his current body of work, but the Cards didn't exactly even have much going on in the way of above average pass rushers anywhere last season. Doesn't have to be the guy in Spags defense, just be a guy in whatever role and snaps he's given. I'd be thrilled with 3-5 sacks and a good number of pressures in a season.

I've come to the conclusion that alot of this is just pure "where you get drafted" and if you do in fact get drafted to one of these handful of teams and flame out....well that's on you.
it certainly appears that is also how Burt feels
