I remember him more as a great box safety, who excelled at playing center field, who occasionally had some success in coverage.
But, I don't remember coverage being a real strength for him. Saying a safety CAN cover tight ends is not the same as saying the safety is great at covering tight ends.
Maybe you are referring to the brief times before he tore his ACL and missed the 2011 season.
I've had my ups and downs on how good spags is. But what he's shown over and over again is he can coach the hell out of DBs. It's exciting to see what he can do with a raw talent like this, especially since he seems very coachable [Reply]
Folks tend to get caught up in the measurables, and rightly so. The intangibles, including smarts and coach-ability, are really important as well. [Reply]

It really was. He fucking erased Gronk for damn near 4 quarters.
That game, following his insane 2016 season, man, I thought he was headed for Canton, for sure.
He’s probably my favorite Chiefs “What if..?“ for injuries, along with Jamaal Charles, of course.

I’m trying to find some numbers but advanced statistics are hard to find.
I remember we were one of the top 3 teams in defending TEs and Berry had a lot to do with it.
He spent a lot of time in 2013 in the box, like you say, and a fair amount of the responsibility he had in the box was covering TEs.

I also remember the ones that Gronk was unstoppable and I'm glad he's gone. He's gone right
