He got a shot in 2022 with Washington but he was injured after 6 games and then couldn’t get his job back after he was healthy. Washington paid a hefty price to get him from the Colts.
He lost his job to Taylor Heinicke after breaking a finger in a win over the Bears at Soldier Field in mid-October. The Commanders, who were 2-4 under Wentz, went 4-1 under Heinicke, who remained the starter after Wentz was healthy. [Reply]

Chiefs wanted to sign Wentz last year but he thought he was worth more than Chiefs offered & he ended up in LA.
Teams usually don’t switch back-up QB’s after a Super Bowl win…Chiefs have done it in back 2 back years. https://t.co/93zlQ0lhWu
It looks like the Rams only paid him the minimum, so probably he turned us down thinking he'd get a better offer, we signed Gabbert instead, and the better offer never came. [Reply]
Carson Wentz led the NFL in QBR in 2017. He's 20th among active NFL QBs in passer rating. He had a 27 TD to 7 INT ratio in his last full season as a starter in 2021.
Is he the best backup QB this franchise has had since Rich Gannon? [Reply]

Yes.
And this type of move is one we should have been looking to make the last 5 years. We should always be looking for a b/u QB that's capable of winning 50% of the games they start.
That's the b/u QB's job -- just keep things floating until the boss gets back. You don't have to win anything but just don't lose it. [Reply]
