The #chiefs are signing former #broncos RB Samaje Perine per source. He's being signed to the active roster as @MikeGarafolo @RapSheet reported.

CEH can’t block. He’s also not a great runner between the tackles. This guy is solid at everything.

Mmmmmm........

Andy Reid Screen Game.....

Kid will go off on those plays. Go ahead and try to send an extra guy or two on 3rd and 8. Andy will cut you up with those things.

Let's look at this from a styles-make-fights perspective.

When the Chiefs are in 11 sets, especially in clear passing downs, teams are going to run big dime or pure dime packages most of the time to try to improve the matchup against Travis Kelce.

This was the case in 2018, and Kareem Hunt was a DYNAMITE receiving weapon for that offense because he was so damn hard to tackle. The first DB on the scene generally needed help to bring him down, and often flat out whiffed or got shrugged off by Hunt.

Flash forward to Perine.

Watch that 2-minute highlight video. You won't find a single DB bringing him down solo as the first guy to him. He's always breaking a tackle and pushing forward for extra yardage.

So now plug him into the Chiefs offense, with the downfield threat and requirement to play 2-deep safeties restored through the presence of Worthy and Marquise Brown. Travis Kelce is on the field. Rashee Rice is on the field. And Perine is in the backfield.

Send the house? Kelce and Rice are going to uncover quickly over the middle and pick up YAC... or KC will quickly leak Perine and dump it to him in the flat.

Sit in zone (laughter in "you're fucked, we have a Kelce")?

Try to man-up across the board and play single high or cover 0 (laughter in "you're fucked, we have a Mahomes")?

Try to rush 3 (laughter in "you're fucked, we have Mahomes and weapons")?

It's funny to say, but an excellent blocking and receiving 3rd down back who breaks tons and tons of tackles is kind of the LAST piece that puts this offense back into "well, there's prayer" territory for opposing defenses.

Best bet that teams have is that Kingsley vapor-locks when the lights turn on.

Because if that kid is even an average LT and the WRs stay healthy (shit man, even if Kelce gets hurt, I think we're okay with Gray and Wiley), this offense is gonna be a PROBLEM.

Because I just don't see a "Xavier Worthy can't handle NFL action" scenario unfolding. I just saw too much I liked out of him in camp.

The only worry I have is having so much of our offense depend on a couple of pretty slight WRs. There's a non-zero chance that for some period of time we're down BOTH those dudes. They little. NFL players are big.

But when we have our full allotment on the field - well fellas, you get to witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational battle station.

No, see this one time Andy cut a guy that he thought was really good therefore we can’t trust Andy to make any roster decisions at all.

Although I hate the fact that he's a former Bengal, I also hate the fact that he's a former Bronco.

I was trying to figure out why Denver cut him, so I went and checked out their depth chart. Holy shit, I think I’ve actually heard of maybe 6-7 players on their whole roster. Man, they are going to suck hard.

And it isn't obviously the worst roster in the AFCW.

The Chargers is pretty damn bad as well.

The Raiders, apart from QB, have a pretty decent roster with some notable weaknesses (mostly DB). The Raiders might have a playoff caliber roster if they get average QB play.

The Chargers are a team that has survived on miracle plays from their QB and now they've hired a coach who will likely neuter him. God that's just beautiful.

At least they gave Herbert a long-term contract first. So that's neat.

Can’t wait for Malik Nabers to have a great career wasted in New York.

This here. I remember Perine bailing them out against us on Joe's check downs. In space, he was shifty with power. Hopefully, the stink in Denver can be washed off.

I seem to remember him just bludgeoning us on a few occasions. So now he can do that FOR us when we need it.

After the Broncos announced Perine's release on Tuesday, general manager George Paton told reporters they just couldn't find a spot for him in a "stacked room" and his lack of versatility on special teams compared to someone like Audric Estime limited their options.
