Just looked at Taylor’s article. It says 4 years and $72 million on the extension. That’s $18M per year. But Creed still has one cheap year left on his rookie deal, so it’s an overall average of about $15.4 million per year for 5 seasons. [Reply]

Exactly. 2 of the next 4 years will see huge cap bumps up. This is getting ahead of the game. [Reply]
It appears to be like some of Veach's other contracts. Right now everyone is "OMG they gave him how much?" and in a couple of years they'll be saying "OMG he's way underpaid compared to -----'s deal that was just signed. NFL salaries are like land prices, very rarely do they go down. [Reply]

So it’s a 4 year extension that kicks in after this year? [Reply]
FWIW I listened to Verderame’s Patreon discussing this and he said the Chiefs absolutely want Trey Smith. Of course that’s hard to figure out but they want to get him done.
They wanted to keep Tyreek but he got greedy. Wonder if Trey could stay at a good but not insane offer. [Reply]

Yeah - any extension will kick in after the rookie year is over. I can't think of any team that will offer an extension that tears up the final year of a rookie deal (or if it's even allowed). [Reply]

But wow
$8 mil for next year.
We still have Smith and Bolten and other free agents

Either way, had to get this one done.

I agree. Smith is gone. Bolton depends on his play this year if we sign next year. We cant sign everyone. It is what it is. [Reply]
