We'll see how that trend plays out in his sophomore season...
Rick Mirer looked pretty good his rookie season.

The cover of rookie mistakes...goes away.

Donks are just happy he looks like he can be a starter...that's what this season was about. That's a pretty significant rite of passage. Can he be better than an average one is the next hurdle....the Trevor Lawrence, Tua, Mayfield, Herbert test. Will he have a Derrick Carr/Jay Cutler/Andy Dalton career arc?

Does Donko brass stick with a QB capable of an occasional WC birth? That what I mean when I say QB purgatory...just good enough to give his team an eyelash of a chance on a yearly basis.
He will definitely be viewed through a different lens, and rightfully so. It’s not like he’s making a ton of mistakes as you suggests

Rookie QB and a fairly young supporting cast. The cap certainly limited their ability to make some moves, but they’re surging well with what they have. Although you want to paint it as all luck, injuries and magic.

He will likely cost more than that to re-sign. And, again, acknowledging he's merely middle of the road, you're gonna have to commit to him or face dealing with what the Chiefs have been dealing with this year. You want your rookie/2nd year QB worrying about his blindside constantly (due to rookie LT or lower tier FA tackle) while trying to learn on the job and go through his progressions? Because that's what Mahomes is dealing with right now. Difference is he's a 7 year veteran dealing with it. And it's still a struggle.

I get what you're saying about the draft and all, but you're not gonna 'hit' on all those players, so there's gonna have to be some money spent if your team wants to rise up in the AFC West (or at least have the chance to), but I mean if you all are content with being the 3rd best team in the division moving forward, by all means, don't let me get in the way of that . . . . .
I realize it may not be you specifically, but I could find lots of posts here about how bad Bolles sucks. That's the irony.

But zooming out, Denver does not have a lot of big contracts. With the dead money coming off from Wilson (and a few others), Denver is in a pretty good position cap-wise. They need to address LT. I don't think it would be crazy to do it in the draft, if they saw someone in the first round they really loved. But probably Bolles.

They need to plan to pay Bonitto because, I feel compelled to add, he is a grand slam home-run of a second round pick. They are honestly a bit ahead of schedule in rebuilding from Wilson because of some mid-round picks and rookie signings ranging from solid base hits to better (Cooper, Meinerz, Moss, MacMillan, e.g.) and a couple of really good first round picks (Surtain, Nix).

The biggest mistake now would be to try to take a short cut. Keep making solid picks. Sign a free agent here and there when it makes sense.

The plan is not to try to beat the Chiefs in the playoffs this year or next.

It's your "First 48" that gets me. Imagine Joe Montana in the what, two seasons he was there? Imagine he won you half the 4 playoff wins you'd get in that "First 48."

Like I said, I'd call that a "drought," but that'd be an insult to droughts everywhere.
Playoff wins... let's see... surely there's more to it than... oh yeah, I forgot. The Chiefs won one of those little things. You know... a SUPER BOWL.

While you were winning playoff games in the 80s, we still had you beat in the franchise stat that matters the most.

Did you transpose Mirer's touchdowns and interceptions when you made this comment?

That's dumb, and makes absolutely no sense. But I have no doubt that's the hope you cling to at the end of every game.

Signing free agent WRs who are not currently on the team has absolutely nothing with your contention--so I don't think we need to deal with the insanity of your second sentence.
The better question is how many FA difference-makers will they be able to sign?

Let's consider a concrete example. Denver could have traded for Hopkins, or another veteran receiver. That would certainly increase the probability of beating the Chiefs in the regular and post season.

Would that have been a smart move? Of course not. Denver isn't going to make noise in the post season this year by adding a receiver. That would be mortgaging the future without much ROI.

It was obviously a good move for the Chiefs because the trade made a championship more likely.

Denver needs to build a seriously competitive team. It can be done reasonably quickly in today's league, but not overnight.

Maybe two?

I don't think they're planning to build the team in free agency. But it would be nice to add a veteran TE or WR, or both, if someone decent is available.

Definitely not. This is likely his last big pay day.
