And remember: I posted all that in defense of the massive incoming ordnance raining down on me. I theorized (and still believe) that a good chunk of the more virulent Broncos-hatred in here are efforts to purge the effects of this long term resentment…..

And NO DOUBT: These eight years of yours are verging on the greatest eight years in the history of the sport. But, even if we get there, the celebrations won’t be enough to purge what’s already happened! It never is, not in sports, not in anything.

Ok, so … it was a drought, but it was a playoff-specific drought. When I ran across it I was surprised cuz it seemed like Chiefs were racking up good records in the 80s and 90s – Bill Kenney, Carlos Carson, Derrick Thomas, Dale Carter, etc … I keep meaning to add up KC’s reg sea record over those 48 years.

Wow, interesting you think that. Maybe we’re fooling people into thinking we’re not bothered by SB blowouts… but we definitely are. They pop up everywhere: When we went B2B in 97-98, it broke an NFC 13 game Super Bowl winning streak.

YAY!

No, NOT “yay,” Broncos lost 3 of those 13 in a row …..

Sure, we TRY to keep our chins up, but whotf wants to glorify an 8-2 championship game record? (and one loss was to Buffalo by only three points! Yay! ) There’s a kind of logic to that … Conference Ch’ships measure 16 teams, and neither the AFL nor the NFL had 16 teams until a year before the merger. But no. We live in America, not France.

Well, actually …. a lot more than you might think, but that answer requires some explanation, so read on:

As I’ve mentioned (and mentioned and mentioned), the Broncos survived the AFL decade despite being severely-cash-poor, despite having to invest large sums to bring the stadium up to NFL specs, and despite putting a very sub-par product on the field. When the decade ended, our win% was third-worst, barely edging out the expansion Dolphins and Bengals:

Broncos .291
Dolphins.268
Bengals .255

Usually when teams are that bad, the fans won’t come – and you can’t stop ‘em. But folks were different then ….

In the 1950s and 60s, Denver was still just a dusty Western cowtown really, probably a lot like Kansas City.

The only sports teams were AAA baseball and minor league hockey. The Broncos were an exciting a-l-m-o-s-t major league team, and the fans loved ‘em. “Dynasty” was still 20+ years away, but all these folks wanted was to be "Major League." For now, Rodeo Bucking Bronco chutes built as entryways to the locker rooms would suffice.

Careful, your Wild West Is showing!

Mile High Stadium, 1967
Denver Broncos Floyd Little and Marlin Briscoe head for the rodeo chute and through into the locker room. Briscoe became the first African-American quarterback ever to start an American pro football game, and Little was later enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

I remember John Elway telling a story couple weeks before the 49ers-Broncos SB. The whole city, the whole state picked up on it, and people started repeating it like a quasi-mantra: John asked his mom, “Hey mom, you excited about heading to New Orleans, another Super Bowl?” She responded, “Oh John, do we have to play the Super Bowl?”

There is one last thing I’m sure of: Visiting fans should NOT have to surrender the pride they have in the accomplishments of their team when they’re here. I never will.

This post doesn’t make any sense

The Pittsburgh Steelers were established in 1933, and only had one playoff season in 40 years; yet have six titles since 1974. No one recounts their 40 years of trash.

Don't try and make sense out of anything that Buffy says. All he does is cut and paste posts that he's made at the Orange Huddle. He's just a tool.

I wonder about all the things you can’t help but wonder about. It’s gotta be some list.

How they fit all them little fellas in muh TV? And so on.

How much does this hurt Denver fans? 1 game out with the tiebreaker IF you hit a chip shot FG :-)

I said you had to wait until now to judge Bo Nix when the season began. He’s shown he can play.

Can he be elite? Maybe. But I’d say he’s the second best QB in this draft so far.

The only dim-witted child is YOU. What you had said & got changed wasn't football talk. Typical Donktard hypocrisy.

I had suspected you'd come here humping your neighbor's dog because your Donks played against against a 20th ranked Defense that's been struggling since week 1 & got a win.

Big deal. You still didn't get the W that you really wanted a week ago.

Didnt watch the Donko game...but after seeing the final score, I looked into the details...

"Starting with the Falcons' secondary, Dee Alford (hamstring) and Mike Hughes (neck) will not play this Sunday. This will likely mean Clark Phillips III and Kevin King will help out in the starting lineup, as well as someone like Richie Grant, according to the call. Antonio Hamilton Sr. — who is Alford's backup at nickel — has also been ruled out.

How the Falcons account for the absence of those two — plus the backup behind Alford — will be something to monitor in-game.

As we move closer to the line of scrimmage, the news doesn't get much better for the Falcons. Inside linebackers Troy Andersen (knee) and JD Bertrand (concussion) were not able to get the all-clear from their injuries,

Essentially 3 CBs and 2 LBs were out...not sure how the Donks keep getting to play all these MASH units.

Good game for the Donks...Chiefs losing today is nightmare scenario for them though. Week 18 could actually have value for HFA...which means KC will actually game plan this time around...and Hollywood Brown/Pacheco should be back.

So you’re still wondering?

Nix is the second rookie in history to have 300+ yards passing, 4+ TDs, and a passer rating over 140.

Do you suppose any other rookie QBs in history played against bad or injured defenses?

You must think it's etched in stone that he will. You don't know that. That's just hopium on your end.

And Nix seemingly has only done well against MASH units.

Why yes -- your very own 2nd-tier, overhyped, overrated, buck-toothed, turd-out-of-his-back pocket puller named Turd Elway did in the season final in 1983 and went 13-34, 143 yds, 0 TD's, 4 INT's in a 48-17 loss to KC.

Herbert was a FAR more consistently impressive rookie than Nix...and still hasnt won a post-season game.

Atlanta lost to the Saints last week...they are trending down...and losing almost half their defensive starters on an already bad defense doesn't help. That's almost a preseason level roster on the defensive side.

I'm actually surprised by your defense...though I'm not sure how well VJ's scheme will age by season's end. Zone and 50% blitz will get you games like the Ravens..

You’re defending your claim that Nix is bad by comparing him to Elway having a terrible game?

Are you even trying at this point?
