Nzoner's Game Room>Lamar Jackson wasn't, isn't, and never will be better than Patrick Mahomes
Wallcrawler 09:14 AM 01-16-2020
This "Lamar Jackson is in the same league as Mahomes" nonsense on every football related show I see needs to stop.

Lamar Jackson, on the biggest stage, has now shit down his leg in both opportunities. Lamar is a player who has to have everything around him working perfectly to have success. Put him down 2 scores and ask him to carry the team, he cannot answer the bell.

There's a big difference between a running quarterback, and a quarterback who can run. Lamar Jackson and The Ravens ran 88 plays and put up 12 points.

Jackson attempted 59 passes, only threw one touchdown, but also threw two picks and lost a fumble. 12 points on 59 pass attempts should tell you all you need to know about Lamar as a QB when the lights are the brightest.

Nobody would bat an eye if before the game, soneone told us Pat would put the ball up 59 times. Matter of fact, id be pretty excited to see how many points and yards he would put up in that span of plays.

When things got bad for both QBs, you saw the odds on favorite to win the MVP this year get visible frustrated, press, and ultimately fold. He was nowhere to be seen trying to work out what was happening, rallying his team, he simply pouted on the sideline as his team fell further behind.

The reigning MVP had literally no quit. Its one thing to say after the fact, that we had faith all along, its quite another for that to be true.

Down 24, think about that for a moment. 24. Mahomes is captured, in that moment on the sideline saying we have everything we want. Everyones already counted us the **** out, so go do something special.

Then, to walk the walk after talking the talk, leading the team to 7 straight touchdowns and 8 scoring drives, throwing 5 touchdown passes, and displaying a fiery emotion that if you dont feel anything when you see this kid going nuts after a huge play, call the coroner, because youre already dead.

The two qbs could not be further apart. Jackson cannot hold Mahomes jock when it comes to putting the team on his back.

Lamar should consider signing with KC as a running back. Its the only way barring injury to Mahomes, that hes ever getting a ring.

Mahomes is the MVP. Its not even close. Lamar is a running back executing the halfback pass play about 20-25 times a game.

Jacksons first two years have ended with dud playoff performances.

Mahomes first two years as a starter sees his team hosting back to back AFC title games for a frachise that in its entire history never hosted a single one before he arrived.

Just another reminder that Lamar Jackson stole his only MVP from Mahomes

If the ratbirds had Allen instead of Jackson they'd probably be unstoppable. He's a running QB that can actually throw.

They'd arguably be the greatest team of all time without any weaknesses. That defense is absolutely stacked.

I wonder if their fans are rethinking that non-exclusive tag they had on Jackson. Does this season make them think he can put it together? Or does it cement the fact that he just can’t get it done at the highest level?

I think MVP is such a bullshit standard to use in the first place. Most Valuable? How the fuck do you quantify that? Someone could have an insane season but they don't get the nod because we have to figure out his "value" to the team and what would happen if they weren't there, which is absolutely asinine and arbitrary.

Just give it to the player who had the best year and did something historic. At least maybe we'd start giving it to a non QB at some point.

Fucking hate the narrative around Lamar. People act like he’s the only thing the ravens have.

People acted like Lamar turned everything around. Lamar has always been a good qb when the script is working. He still continues to be suspect when he is forced into a passing script and playing from behind. And it’s amazing that against guys like mahomes, burrow and Allen who have a number of signature wins under their belt… where is Lamar’s?

I have to admit, I was nervous when I remembered this thread and realized Pat and Lamar had yet to meet in the playoffs. The opportunity was there to have a losing record against another QB. But, I'm not sure why I would ever doubt Mr. Mahomes.

Exactly, that defense still makes the playoffs. they could have any QB throwing for 3000 yards and probably make up the rushing yards.

And taking away nothing from the Chiefs defense, but do the Chiefs make the playoffs with just an average QB? The defense was already covering up a lot of mistakes by the offense just to get a 3 seed... the Ravens could have dropped a few games and would have been fine, but not so much the Chiefs.

Allen would still lose a game with stupid turnovers. He can’t help himself.

They’d just have to hope it’s a meaningless regular season game and not a playoff game.

Why is Lamar considered the slam dunk MVP? Aren’t Dak’s numbers considerably better? What am I missing?

It’s a regular season award so narratives count for a lot as well. If other things are similar or equal, it’ll go to the QB of the team with the best record or 1 seed.

Purdy has a decent argument with their record and also a 1 seed but he’ll split MVP votes with CMC like Montana/Rice in ‘87 when Elway stole it.

Dak had a good season but too many stinkers.

You know how when teams face each other competing for a postseason berth the game is often viewed as a "two-game (or, in hockey, 4-point) swing in the standings"?

If the Ravens had won Sunday and then won the SB, Lamar would have 1 SB win to Mahomes' 2, the same number of regular season MVP awards (2), and likely 1 SB MVP to Mahomes' 2.

That would've created a new narrative that Mahomes is looking over his shoulder and Lamar is as good as or even better than Mahomes ("He's on the way up!"). Not saying that narrative would be true, just that it would've been really annoying all off-season and next season.

Instead, Sunday's win was like a huge swing in the "standings," i.e., Mahomes' Legacy, helped immensely by Lamar struggling as well.

The Chiefs did it for years with Alex Smith. They would absolutely still make the playoffs with an average QB. This division sucks. The Chiefs were the only team in their division with a winning record. The Ravens were in a division with 2 other playoff teams. How on earth do the Chiefs have less breathing room than the Ravens?

When Mahomes 3 Peats there will be no arguments.

When Mahomes wins his 10th SB there will be no arguments to have.

Until then people will scream and kick and fight every second of it. They don't want it to be true. It doesn't matter - it's inevitable...
