It's been awhile since I've made a Jewdog post. But Lewdog is a Jewdog when it comes to wanting to spend less on things you're going to need anyway. So we had a chest freezer in the garage for the past 4 years, which was big enough but a total pain in the ass. Can't see what's in there, digging through it and finding meat at the bottom, months old and freezer burned. Bought a new Kenmore upright for the garage and sold the other one.
Local store had great deals and went to stock up yesterday. I've taken a few days off work and just being at home. We are transitioning to a new company at work and I have a feeling they are going to fuck me over on my PTO I have accumulated. Time to take days off and call in "sick."
Petite sirloin steaks 2.99/lb
Chicken breast 1.47/lb
93% ground beef 2.97/lb

Black Friday job I got last year has been good. I've even got by with cheap bags. It took me a bit though. You have to put the textured side up or it won't grab vacuum. I wasted a bunch of bag figuring it out. [Reply]

I stopped using cheap bags. I find a get a better vacuum and longer hold in the freezer with the better bags.

Extra bags look like they can get expensive if you're tossing them.
I don't reuse. I don't use them like Ziplocks, I just use them to freeze, so I'm not running through them too fast. [Reply]

The only time I re-use bags is if it's something going into the freezer that I might sous vide later I'll leave extra room at the top so I can thaw, cut the bag open, season and re-seal. [Reply]
They're not that expensive if you buy them in bulk, really.
Especially if you watch for sales either on Amazon or even Foodsaver used to occasionally run pretty good ones. They go a lot further than you'd realize. [Reply]
