Nzoner's Game Room>Off Season Lets Talk Guns, Part 2
HonestChieffan 11:58 AM 01-23-2011
Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

I'm guessing no, they do not.

I have a CC license. That overrides any municipal limitations. However, I don't know if Chicago has limits on mag sizes for pistols.

They still have their fucking assault rifle ban, but it's not like I'll be carrying my AR to work. :-)

I know. And an extra mag for the CZ will give me an additional 14-16 rounds. :-)

As far as caliber, I'm more concerned with capacity, and that's a direct reflection of the places I go. I work in the heart of Chicago, and pass through a major transportation hub twice a day; far more likely I'll run into trouble there than a local convenience store. And if I do, 15-17 rounds is better than 8 or 9.
What caliber is your xdm? Because the "m" stands for high capacity magazine, right?

I always assumed the m meant "match", but I really don't know for sure.

It could mean "medium", too, just like the s in xds means "slim".

I don't know.

I don't know.
I had an xdm so I'm 99% sure that means large capacity magazine. If it's an xds it's a single stack magazine.

I really don't know. The original model was called XD, the "m" could just be their way of distinguishing it as new.

Both of them are 9mm.

This is the XDm.

This is the 9c. It's dirty, so there's really no point in breaking it down for a photo, and I'm not motivated enough to clean it right now.

That's definitely a high capacity magazine...

Yep. 19+1. If I had it to do over I would have bought the model with the small grip and got sleeves for the extended mags so I could have the option. Had I done that, I would have never bought the Smith in the first place.

If you want to reach 800-1200 yards and shoot the dick off a fly, go with a 6.5 Creedmoor.

Most 6.5 Creeds will be heavier, though, so if you want a smaller, lighter package that can kill to 700 go Grendel.

I would go 6.5 Creed if you want extreme precision and don't mind the weight, but then again I am a long range shooter. :-)
Do I need to have an AR-10 lower for a 6.5 Creedmoor upper? I have an AR-15 lower ready to go is why I ask. I think I can put a 6.5 Grendel on that lower, no?

Last thing you need to do is throw on a HABU.

I shamelessly pimp these because my buddy has the patent.

Falcon 37, a startup company in North Carolina, is going to be releasing a cheek rest charging handle for the AR15 platform on May 16. The HABU Mod 1*comes in one piece, and replaces the standard charging handle in any AR15.

There is no more “T” handle, but rather a sloped cover like device with indentations for a solid grip. Pulling this to the rear operates the action like any other AR15 charging handle would, but the advantage is that it gives shooters a cheekpiece that will work with any current AR stock in production.

But more importantly, it allows complete ambidexterity of the charging handle, and appears to be more intuitive for charging the weapon because a shooter is using major motor skills instead of fine motor skills that a current AR15 requires to operate the T handle of an AR15. The design has two adjustable positions, so a shooter can bring it further back as well.*

Creedmoor is a 10 and Grendel is a 15 on your lowers
