I think Veach is better than Paton. What's that got to do with the fact that no teams, except the Chiefs, recognized Mahomes. Or the fact that every year all teams do horribly picking which QB will turn out to be any good.
It is kind of strange that KC never picked QBs--even when they needed one--leading up to Mahomes. I'm not sure why that is but it's not due to Veach's brilliance considering they also didn't pick QBs before he was there. And for that matter, there were some decent QBs in those drafts between 2013, when Reid and Veach arrived, and 2017. But KC didn't pick them.
Hell, Dak Prescott was available until the 4th round in 2016 (Ironically, they picked him because they failed in their attempt to get Paxton Lynch).

Why didn't Veach find Prescott?
Your coach claims he knew Mahomes was elite and wanted him...then let's the Chiefs jump him. Inexcusable
Dak? Seriously Dak? That's what you're going with? [Reply]

Why wouldn't I go with Dak? If Veach is a QB-identifying savant, why would he not have drafted him in the third or fourth round?
It's not like he knew they'd get Mahomes the next year.
The point about "my coach" only proves my point. He didn't know how good Mahomes would be and no one else did. If they did, there would have been an all out bidding war for the first pick. [Reply]

Dak and Patrick aren't even REMOTELY comparable. System QBs like Dink and Dak are a dime a dozen. [Reply]

So, like, elite talent evaluators couldn't tell how good he would be, right? [Reply]
Another point--it's not like there's a whole lot of daylight between Nix's week 1 performance and Williams or Daniels. They sure didn't look as different as the consensus rankings would suggest. [Reply]
The difference between Williams and Daniels and then nix is the fact they looked much better in college and were much better prospects than Nix. Nix is a check down master his whole college career and that’s just not going to cut it in the NFL. [Reply]
