Cowboys give CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott new contract offers

Executive vice president Stephen Jones said Saturday the Cowboys sent a new offer to receiver CeeDee Lamb’s representation Friday. The team also recently sent a new offer to Dak Prescott’s agent.

Talks are progressing for both players, and the Cowboys seem optimistic they can get both signed by the start of the regular season.

“Right now, I would characterize both conversations as upbeat,” Jones said. “We’re having good talks back and forth with both Todd [France] and Tory [Dandy]. I like where we stand.”

France, Prescott’s agent, is in talks with the Cowboys about a third contract for the quarterback. It took two years for Prescott to get his second contract, a four-year, $160 million deal that expires at the end of this season.

Prescott has all the leverage, with no-trade and no-tag clauses, so he is in control of whether he becomes a free agent in March.

“We’re talking. Make no mistake about it. We’re talking,” Owner Jerry Jones said Saturday.

Lamb, whose agent is Dandy, is not participating in training camp as he seeks a raise on the $17.9 million he is scheduled to make on his fifth-year option.

I'm sorry, but Alex Smith could never.
How about a Kirk Cousins comp?

Both put up shiny stats but never do shit in the playoffs/the clutch.

Not bad. Cousins' numbers are kind of shocking. Just based on my dynasty experience with him.

Never? I mean, sure it probably would be unlikely, but 'never'?

In 2017 Alex was statistically the best QB in the league. He threw for just over 4,000 yards. Brady that same year threw for just over 4,500 yards, with 75 more attempts. Alex had a higher completion% at 67.5% vs. 66.3%. Alex also had a higher Y/A at 8.0 vs. 7.9.

If Alex had thrown the ball a few more times, at least statistically, he could've been in that realm.

Him NOT throwing the ball was kind of the problem though. He'd take off and run.

He would take his eyes off the receivers.

Mahomes was an instant upgrade because the play is never over and his eyes are always downfield.

The second Alex ran, it was a run. That's it. It's over.

True. Like I said, I'm just saying statistically Alex could have. Let's also not forget that he only played like 15 games that year. And averaged about 270yds/gm. So if he'd just played those two games, he should've thrown for right around 4,500 yds.

The TDs, well, that probably not.

Look, I'm not saying Dak is exactly the same as Alex Smith. I know Dak is better than Alex ever was. I'm just saying that the difference between Dak in 2023-24 and 2017 Alex isn't as great as some people might think.

Huh. Just looked at Tua's stats again. Statistically, 2023 Tua is almost exactly 2017 Alex Smith, right down to Passer Rating and QBR.

MIA just paid a less mobile version of Alex Smith 2.0 $55M/yr.

At least Alex's brain is fine.

What happened to Alex's leg, that's Tua's brain

How are the cowgirls going to afford Dak, CeeDee and Parsons? One has to go and by the looks of it, Parsons is the goner.

Maybe. But I don't think they can do that. I just read earlier today that their other pass-rusher, Sam Williams (iirc), blew out his ACL or Achilles. But he's done for the season. They're down to D. Lawrence who hasn't posted a double-digit sack number in years. I think they probably have to pay Parsons.

But wow, Jerry is all about overpaying players. Lamb is really good, but he ain't JJ or Davante.
