This achievement comes months after the first birthday of the $1.5 billion 40-gate terminal, which opened on February 28, 2023. The 2024 study period evaluated a full year of operations in the new terminal. The 2023 study period overlapped both the old terminals’ and new terminal’s operations.

“Kansas City continues to reach new highs, and it is fantastic for the airport to receive a high customer service ranking from customers outside the KC area,” said City Manager Brian Platt. “I am proud of our airport, proud of the Aviation Department team and proud of Kansas City!”
“Since opening, the terminal has welcomed record numbers of passengers, received new or expanded air service and received dozens of awards and accolades,” said Aviation Director Melissa Cooper. “Our team designed and built the terminal with the customer in mind, and this direct customer input validates that effort. We are not resting on our laurels. We continue to adjust and improve facilities and services. That will not stop.”
The J.D. Power North America Airport Satisfaction Study measures overall traveler satisfaction with mega, large and medium North American airports by examining six factors (in order of importance): terminal facilities; airport arrival/departure; baggage claim; security check; check-in/baggage check; and food, beverage and retail. Mega airports are defined as those with 33 million or more passengers per year; large airports with 10 to 32.9 million passengers per year; and medium airports with 4.5 to 9.9 million passengers per year. MCI welcomed 11.5 million passengers in 2023.
The study is based on more than 20,000 completed surveys from U.S. or Canadian residents who traveled through at least one U.S. or Canadian airport and covers both departure and arrival experiences (including connecting airports) during the past 30 days. Travelers evaluated either a departing or arriving airport from their round-trip experience.

Not that CP is reddit, but I saw a study sometime in the past week or so that suggested that around 3/4ths of people vote on a post before they read the article.

I mean, seriously, who is actually expecting to have a good time at the airport? Even if it's fully staffed and operating at 100% efficiency, you've still got to deal with the plethora of narcissistic douche fucks that have no regard for what anyone else is doing and freak out at the smallest of inconveniences to them (and due to the nature of how Airlines conduct business, there's going to be a ton of those). Based on what I've read here on CP, no way is PHX third.
I love Sky Harbor. I've never had to deal with crazy traffic getting in our out of the airport (I-10 is a different story) and they always seem to get people through the lines quickly.... I've seen security lines backed up quite a bit and it's still only like a 5 minute wait, even on holiday weekends. They know how to move people through.
Restaurants aren't great.... most are practically fast food from what I've seen, but can at least enjoy a beer or drink beforehand.
It's a good sized airport, but they have people movers between terminals.
My only minor gripe would be it's a bit of a maze to get out of from arrivals... but, I've only done it a couple times and tend to forget how the hell I got out the last time, so I end up doing an extra lap or so. :-) [Reply]

I've been here 2 years and have just now gotten to where I don't need navigation getting out of there haha
But yeah Sky Harbor is super easy imo
Only complaints would be the rental car facility is like a 20 minute shuttle ride, but that doesn't impact me anymore. The other would be the economy parking fills up regularly (figured out you can book in advance) and the daily parking garage has those death spiral exits which were obviously built before cars got huge. Its seriously a leap of faith navigating down those things [Reply]

I've always used Parking Spot, which just requires an extra ~10 minute ride from one of their 3 lots... I think it's like $8/day. [Reply]

Well, me, but I know I'm a weird one. I think the logistics of the aviation industry are fascinating, and it's fun to see all of the destinations and (if you're at a well-connected airport) the exotic airlines and liveries. I've even considered trying to find a job in the industry someday, but my job role is pretty niche, so not sure I'd ever be able to find a good opportunity.
Lounges also help to get out of the chaos a bit, but obviously not every airport has a good option, and even lounges can get overly crowded sometimes. [Reply]
