Nzoner's Game Room>We owe Wanya Morris an apology
RunKC 11:58 AM 11-11-2024
Didn’t realize just how bad it could be without him and boy was it bad.

Say what you want but the kid is a functional LT that is getting better. It’s hard finding average LT’s but I’d say he’s pretty damn close to average and that’s okay.

He’s the same caliber as Donovan Smith to me but he’s young and not falling apart.

Say what you want guys….getting a functional starting LT that is steady and not a bust at the end of rd 3 is an A+ draft pick.

Believe the hit rate in rd 3 is roughly 15% so getting this type of value is a big value to us.

Wanya was just as bad as Kingsley his first year. However we also need to credit to the Broncos Nik Bonitto. I actually wanted the Chiefs to draft him if Pickens was gone (which he wasn't, drafted Skyy Moore instead. Woof!! That's an all time whiff for Veach, worse than Breeland Speaks.)

I suppose I shouldn't be so hard on Veach in this instance. He drafted Chenal in the next round. We good. :-)

Chiefs aren’t going to fix their deep passing game issues until the LT situation is resolved.

I gotta say, that #99 guy on the broncos is pretty good (Allen, but not Josh Allen). He was winning his share of battles against our undefeated, two-time champion offensive line.

Agreed. And I think the constant chatter of shuffling the OL around like it's Madden is fucking stupid. But if Morris has to hit the bench again with this knee issue, I'd much rather slide Thuney out than give Suamataia another chance. He's nearly singlehandedly wrecked 2 of the 3 games he's played in.

We've got 4 really good players up on the OL and the one spot is killing it. Fuck that's just hard to believe you can't scheme around it a bit?

Yeah.. I thought we decided that LT would have growing pains to get to where we wanted with a young player on a rookie contract… Morris is learning on the fly.. Kingsley is struggling with technique.. Don’t think any help is coming..

If Smith were playing around 2024 Wanya Morris-level, would you still be bitching out Veach/Reid?

We'd be a hell of a lot better off if he was rostered than not. I remember you being one of the loudest voices arguing against that, and you've already acknowledged you were wrong. So why you've got your jimmies in a rustle about this I can't say I understand.

Don’t give up on Kingsley, but yeah. Weekly inactive. Sign somebody else.

Lord.

I mean he’s a lot better than Kingsley, who is probably the worst tackle in football this year. But of the 32 teams, he’s a bottom 10 left tackle that we are working around.

I’d bring in Smith if for no other reason than it seems like Mahomes would trust the pocket more. Justified or not.

Donovan was perfectly fine once healthy for the playoffs last year. SB wasn’t great, but it’s not like he was gonna be the reason we lost, if we had.

It’s an ideal spot for him to come back. 10 game season.

I just wouldn’t chance it with Kingsley as the backup under any circumstances and I don’t see any way they sign Donovan to be a backup. So give him the job and if he gets hurt, sure, we can win with Wanya.

I dunno if I'd hand him the starting job at this point, but if that's the only way to get ink to paper I guess you agree and work from there.

Right.

If you’re him, why sign to be a backup? Unless he’s been an idiot with his money which I doubt.

You gotta get a capable warm body in there and if that’s what it takes IDGAF if he starts this Sunday, I would sign him.

The thing that frustrates me much more than the dubious quality of our left tackles is the total lack of commitment to help them. Even when we had a TE or RB chip yesterday, it seemed like we would whiff about 2/3 of the time. We need to scheme this up better before the playoffs for sure and Andy better commit to the idea, especially if he wants Patrick Levon Mahomes II to get another ring.

I wasn't wrong.

We got our young guys snaps in training camp.

We can still sign your savior Donovan Smith.

I said as much in the offseason. "In case the young guys don't work out or in case of injury, that's when you sign Donovan Smith"

Can't be afraid of the unknown, man. Rookies and guys like Wanya are unknown. But you have to rip the bandaid off sometimes. Sometimes you have to see what you have. You have to trade Alex Smith to see what you have in Mahomes. You have to let go of LDT early and start Trey Smith as a rookie. You have to go into a season with only a rookie 2nd round center and some dude named Blythe.

Just didn't work out. For this year.
