It's "open competition" but the people in the building can basically predict how players will do because they're still around them through month long OTAs. In Mahomes' rookie year it was "open competition" between him and Bray, but for crying out loud, the coaches knew who was going to be behind Alex. And they also knew how spectacular Mahomes was going to be without pads on.

PGM has a source in the building at Incestco or whatever the fuck it's called now. It's fair to say the coaches and the team know how Bo Nix is doing before the pads are on.
