I’m not a Tolkien purist per se but hearing about the caring orc families really turns me off from wanting to start this. I mean, orcs are just kind of grown from the ground for the sole purpose of fighting and destruction right? Do we really need or even want to empathize with them or care about them as individuals?
I’m sure I’ll get around to this eventually but man it just sucks that I don’t feel excited about it. [Reply]
The Galadriel casting I don’t mind. And maybe I’m on an island here. But the portrayal of Elrond pisses me off. PJ’s LOTR are forever how the characters will be viewed. And to have him with short curly hair has never felt right [Reply]
I don't like much about this. The dialogue just always seems forced. I don't know how to explain it, but every single interaction seems amateur. It's weird, because I really liked season one, but this season is idk. [Reply]
Celebrimbor accidentally shattering a bottle of red wine from the first age while Annatar reveals his true form for the first time is beautiful scene setting.
And The One Ring theme is so fucking amazing. What a great fucking show. [Reply]

JFC, is it not possible that in LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF YEARS maybe he decided to grow it out? You people are weird. :-) [Reply]

Found one of those "Tolkien Purists". Nerdrotic is very learned on Tolkien's lore, and because of that, Nerdrotic is............not a fan of this show. Even a little.
EVERYTHING about the origin of Sauron's return is incredible. This show has everything. Top notch acting. AMAZING music. Great action. Incredible world-building.
They've taken Peter Jackson's template and blown it out ten fold.
The fall of Numenor is going to be HEARTBREAKING.
There might be the faintest touch of woke but certainly nothing on the level we've seen elsewhere. [Reply]
People have to understand that this takes place before a monumental shift in the entire universe they live in. The orc complaints are weird to me. Orcs are a ruined version of elves. Adar is the first fallen elf. Orcs are just at the start of their arc in this show. They're a representation of fallen angels Tokeins known for pulling some old testament type stuff. They eventually breed the Uruk-hai. I think this follows the old testament fallen angels making nephelim (giant) children with human women.
This is a representation of satan offering adam and eve the apple in the garden of eden. And they gladly took the temporary bail out with the evil theyll never be able to outrun. [Reply]

This is not trash. I doubt you've even read the source material. Just enjoy it and stop trying to find a reason to hate everything. This isn't The Acolyte.
It's highly well crafted show. The guy playing Sauron is an utterly absurdly great actor. [Reply]

Yes. This makes the orcs a far more interesting trope than they've ever been before. They're basically just faceless stormtroopers in PJ's LOTR.
Now we get to see a little story about the orcs unfold itself.
This is not an effort to make the orcs Palestinians, which is what people are immediately assuming. [Reply]

This show has already lost like 60% of it's original audience now. Audience scores are terrible. It's terrible. Just stop. [Reply]
IMO its too hard to follow for casuals. I read all the books at a young age and have recently been into some stuff exploring the old testament stuff that the church ignores. And a lot of Tolkiens stuff is based on that. And I am enjoying it more than i expected. My wife is watching it with me and watched the first season. She loves the Hobbit movies and LOTR, but couldnt give a flying flp less about this and its obvious even though she says she likes it. [Reply]
