Here's a good one. Man gets pulled over for doing 131 MPH on Phoenix freeway. They are using Cessna planes to catch speeders now. Yes, planes. His statement to an officer, "he was glad DPS did not catch him while traveling 160 mph earlier."

They do that here in Texas as well. The next county over does it (Parker County, which if you ever drive through Texas, don't speed, don't litter, don't even look at a cop, or you will get a ticket). [Reply]

Have they upped the technology to some kind of longer distance laser, or are they still timing between markers?
Used to be you could look out for the coincidence of air traffic above and stripes on the road to know to slow down. [Reply]

I've never seen them up there but given how low they fly, it should be pretty apparent when they're doing it.
So often, that is next level bullshit. Because those they 'catch' are generally the ONLY vehicles passing between those markers in that given time. That is, slightly exceeding the limit while posing absolutely no danger to others.
I could see if the speed approached known tire ratings or some other safety concern. Say 100+ in a 70. But this screams [I saw you being naughty out there by yourself from a few miles away. Give us money!!]'
Might as well ticket some dude for beating his meat alone out in the middle of the Mohave desert [Reply]
