Nzoner's Game Room>***The Official MMA Thread***

Excited about an upcoming fight? Want to make predictions, or just give people a heads-up that there are some fights on? We can do it here.

(Also a good place to complain, dicuss, and agrue about the outcomes)

Crazy. Hed never tested positive before. Wonder if it was just a one time thing he gambled on due to the huge layoff from the prior suspension, or if he had used before but timed it better.

I think this is way more damaging to him than it is for Lesnar. With Lesnar you assumed he was no stranger to this sort of thing, and MMA wasnt going to be his legacy anyway, he has other outlets to fall back on, hes a modern day strongman/entertainer who can dabble in MMA due to his size and strength, but Jones really has dug himself a hole. UFC 200 was his chance to climb out of the hole he previously dug for himself.

People will say oh hell be back on top, and he might, but windows of dominance always close unexpectedly.
According to his agent, Jon Jones missed out on a payday of over $15MM for just UFC 200 (I assume a lot of that would have been PPV points). Then if he beat Cormier as a lot of people expected, I assume he would have fought in New York, been one of the only superstars, and cashed checks for years.

He threw away an incredible amount of money. 2 years from now maybe he comes back, but he's just entering into the age that is the peak for most fighters.

It really just depends if they can identify the actual compound.

But if that is all he tested positive for I think there is a decent chance he unknowingly took it. Now if it was Clomid or Nolvadex, then yeah he knew what he was doing.

Yeah..
He is a fucking idiot.

The sports business daily journal reported more details on the sale of the UFC. Originally there were 5 bidders: aside from WME-IMG, there was also Fox, ESPN, Time Warner, and the Chinese companies (who later partnered up with WME-IMG)

Time Warner was planning to put the UFC on HBO and Turner Sports, but they dropped out early. ESPN dropped out without submitting a bid when they saw how much the UFC wanted. FOX bid $3.6MM and when their bid was beaten they dropped out.

The UFC currently gets $115MM/year from Fox on their TV deal. WME-IMG believes that when the contract is up after 2018 they'll be able to negotiate a 10 year deal for over $400MM/year. Some in the industry are skeptical but if they can get that much then it helps justify the price they paid.

It may escalate to over 400 per year but the first half of that ten year deal will likely be in the 250 range. Don't be surprised to see CBS as a player too. They could likely drive the price north of 200 just by bidding it up.

They may also parcel out content like the NFL. Maybe one big contract with most of the cards that a FOX or an ESPN may want to fill out their multiple channels, and a small special package of 4 or 5 cards a year where they put more priority on making good fights and guarantee ratings at or above X to attract a CBS or NBC that can't quite handle the enormous number of events they want to televise, but could be in for a few.

Either way I think it's going to be better for the fans. The kind of money they're talking about they won't be able to stash a lot of crappy cards on TV and put RDA v Alvarez on fightpass for much longer. Now they have to work on the fighter pay scale. Some of these guys are getting peanuts.

Brock Lesnar's team is blaming the failed test on an asthma inhaler and are saying he tested positive for a chemical found in the inhaler. WADA bans asthma inhalers unless the athlete has a medical need for it. Brock is prescribed by a doctor to use inhalers during the spring and summer months.

It is still his responsibility to apply for a TUE to be approved to use it, but if he popped for something that he could have gotten permission to use, then I guess its not a big deal. Should be easy for USADA to verify.

Brock Lesnar's in-competition sample from the night of the fight came back positive. I assume it'll be the same substance.
