Apparently Russ' contract is fairly complicated, there are two separate future extension options which each lower his guaranteed salary but tack on extra years. This article explains a lot of it: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/a...ontract%20year.

TLDR, they can release him next offseason for a large but manageable cap hit unless he balls out this year.
