I mean, just take how we performed on ALL THOSE national broadcasts. It was bad, man.
Dude we literally had fans rioting against the team and a player blow his head off in the parking lot in front the GM in 2012.

That season felt like it lasted 5 years

You guys who didn't watch 17 games of that disaster just don't grasp the incompetence of Hackett and his staff. You think you do, but you don't. To completely get it, you have to have tortured yourself with 17 approximately 3-hour windows of total aggravation (15, actually, since he was put out of his misery after the 15th game); followed by who knows how long listening to sports talk and watching highlights; followed by an even larger amount of time laying in bed, wide awake, wondering if it was all a fever dream.

It was so bad that when Jerry Rosburg was given the euthanization duties for the last two games of the season, they gave him carte blanche to fire multiple members of the staff. There was no good reason for this, other than principle. "You don't get to finish when you have failed this spectacularly."

I'd love to know if there has been anything else quite like it in NFL history.
Saw two of the 17 for sure.

It wasn't Hackett it was Russ. Stop being a homer. So Hackett calls a play a guy is wide open over the middle. Because he's "Liiiiiimitttteeeed" in that regard, he naturally doesn't take it and the team loses out on points...and you blame the coach?

And to be fair, that level of ineptness is outright comedy. At least you had that to look forward to.
The lowest had to be when their fans actually left before overtime.

Russ is cooked, but Hackett was a spineless moron. He let Russ do whatever the fuck he wanted. So long as he got in his Hackett hugs it was totally fine for Russ to get preferential treatment.

It’s now easy for Payton to take away all of Russ’s toys because the team supports a totally new approach, but if he were the coach last year he would have told Russ to go fuck himself. The parking space, the office, the personal trainers in the building… all of it would have been stopped.

....and still win 5 games with how out of shape/unprepared captain Cook was for that season

He wouldn't have been out of shape if Payton was there last year. Bc Payton isn't a pussy and demanded he get fit.

Russ knows his job is on the line

Payton didn't even have the balls to put a stop to BountyGate. That or he encouraged it.

Yeah, Payton isn't exactly known for instilling discipline in his players or demanding accountability. Not sure where that came from. Hell, most of their star players were constantly involved in drama, to the detriment of the team.

Even with the crowd helping them with the clock, the plays were still a disaster. :-)

Not trying to defend Hackett, but remember what Denver gave up for Wilson. He held all the cards. Payton (who may/may not enforce anything) is a proven HC with a SB ring. That carries more weight than being a guy Rodgers liked, especially considering they did not land Rodgers.

Didn't New Orleans have a bottom tier, soft defense for most of his tenure? So soft that they resorted to bounties he turned a blind eye too...ya so tough and discipline they were. Finesse offense too...

His job might be on the line, but they still owe him a pretty big contract!
