Of course, their excuse is that Bowlen needed the extra dough to fund the stadium, but I’m not sure how that excuses circumvention of the cap.
The truth is they knew they were cheating. Al Davis called them out on it as they were doing it. He was right. The NFL acknowledged it a few years later and fined them and stripped draft picks. Bottom line, they don't win the Super Bowl without cheating the salary cap so they could pay Elway and Davis, which just happened to be their best two players.

Deferring payments to players because you’re trying to fund a new stadium is nothing compared to Sodgate.

Knowmo, do you think the Sean Payton Broncos will have a better season than the Chiefs this year?

If our teams swap injury luck, yes.

The chiefs have a deeper better roster overall paired with the best head coach in the league and an all time great qb

The broncos are at beat the 2013 Chiefs. I’m not sure wilson can play at that level that Alex smith did and their defense doesn’t have near the talent the 2013 chiefs did

I've already proven that KC is better at every single position

I'm saying if both teams have minor injuries at worst. Who has the better season?

I agree. Wilson and Payton have taken teams to the playoffs consistently. Feels like they are a divisional loss team at their absolute peak.

Sean Payton was successful but he was in the NFC. He never had to go against Manning, Brady and Big Ben every single year.

Let's be honest: it's the Bills, Bengals and Chiefs at the top of this conference for the foreseable future. Jets are interesting, but I think only the Jags can make it to the the 3 spot in this conference.

If both teams stay totally healthy, the Chiefs should have the better season. But I only say that because of what happened last year. My opinion could totally flip early in the season.

Please tell me you actually believe this theory. :-) :-)

Even if it had occurred, arguing that a poor playing surface that affected both teams was a bigger competitive advantage than deferring huge payments to the top players on the team is good stuff. I’m sure it was purely chance that it happened to coincide with the most loaded rosters in Broncos history (96-98), after years of struggling to put a great team around Elway.

Do the Broncos have any legit championships?

In the AFCC, KC was missing 4 of their top 5 receivers, two of their best defenders, and Mahomes was hobbling on one leg. They STILL beat a far more talented team than Denver. And they’ll be better this year. Good luck!
