Looks like it was purely politics handing Elway an MVP he didn't deserve
That one was a head scratcher!

And Patrick mahomes is close to John Elway or Joe Montana that you'll get to in today's league
He's nowhere near the top 5...sorry

Man, you Bronco fans should make a sitcom, and "It was a different time" can be your hilarious catch phrase

Elway was never even a first-year all-pro selection

Elway threw left-handed passes?

I wouldn’t compare Elway’s numbers to today’s QBs, of course, but they weren’t stellar even for his era. He generally didn’t rank at or near the top in any major stats and turned it over a lot. And I think the Reeves excuse is overblown. In ‘85, Elway was #1 in the NFL in pass attempts, by a good margin. #4 the following year. #6 the next season. 4th in ‘88, etc. He was almost always much closer to the top than the bottom in attempts. But he was rarely near the top in completion percentage or TD/INT ratio.

There’s a lot more to being a top 5 QB all-time than a strong arm and the occasional 4th quarter comeback.

:-) Now I see why they didn't throw it much back then
300 TD to 226 Int's

Elway was awesome at handing the ball to the RB though.

:-)

Elway was a joke !

He may have had elite ability, but all that matters is how he produced on average. And he didn’t produce like a top 10 all-time QB. Definitely not top 5.

What do we always hear about Elway? “He’d do nothing until the last drive and then he’d tear your heart out!” Well, believe it or not, there have been QBs that actually play complete games. And perform far better on the big stage.
Elway was the white Michael Vick, with a luckier career.

Is that in order, or just the list. I can agree with the list, but would have to make a few changes in the order. Mahomes most likely will be number one eventually. But I wouldn't put him there just yet. At this point, probably 4th. Montana would be my number one at this point. I would also move Unitas into the top 5. Marino would be just outside the top 5 at 6 at Young behind him at 7. Then Favre, followed by Fivehead, then Rodgers rounding out the top 10
